You will only ever make them once, the kitchen gets covered in flour and so does the hob. Just buy some

There's one on the BBC website www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chapatis_77146

Haven't tried it but it sounds fairly straight forward, let me know if you find as better one, I'm not keen on the supermarket Indian breads!

I couldn't cook chapattis when I got married but am a dab hand now.
They're not as difficult as you think:

2 cups of chapatti flour (I used medium brown)
boiling water (quantity unsure)
a pinch of salt
1 tbsp. sunflower oil

Add the hot water and mix with a spoon until the dough becomes a kneadable consistency.
Place in bowl and cover with cling film.
Take dough and separate into 8-10 equal sized balls
Flatten the ball, bring the edges in and form another ball with even sides
Press down with your palm and roll out
Doesn't need to be a perfect round.

Heat a frying pan or tawa brushed with a little oil
Leave hob on medium heat
Place the roti on the hot pan for a few seconds and flip over
Cook on this side until light golden brown
Turn over again and cook until golden brown
Lightly brush with butter and cover with a clean tea towel or with foil

Just divine!

There's absolutely no need for your your kitchen to Get covered in flour!

Having said that the frozen chapatti and paratha from Asian grocers or from large supermarkets that have an asian section are pretty decent. I would never buy Asian breads from the fresh section of a a supermarket- unless its a naan as a pizza base!
