I do my shopping in Asda. I have not seen any in there - does anyone know if any of the supermarkets have started stocking it yet?

I can't cope with the idea of squeezy marmite - what do they put in it to make it squeezy?

TwoToTango · 13/05/2006 09:49

I've got no idea. I must admit the thought of it doesn't do much for me but my 5yo marmite fiend ds can't wait to try it!!!

Waitrose - bought some about a month ago for my brother who lives in Paris because it was lighter than the glass jar. Apparantly they've stopped producing the tiny 57g jar but they're still in the shops so it might be worth buying and keping one mint for posterity.

errrrrrrrrrrrrrr

tootsweet · 13/05/2006 09:56

Sainsburys are stocking it. It doesn't taste as good as normal marmite to me though. My DH hated it that much he went and bought a jar of it. My mum loves it though and can't understand what I mean about the taste.

I think someone in The Observer said this was a shame environmentally since the old was glass and the new is plastic.

hunkermunker · 13/05/2006 10:00

I can't leave this thread without saying "Ew, Marmite!" in a childish fashion. Sorry.

Cam · 13/05/2006 10:01

Ther's got to something horrid in it to make it runny cos Marmite isn't that runny

I won't be buying it for dh (he's the marmite fiend in our house)

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 13/05/2006 10:01

ooh true Cam, hadn't thought of that.

threebob · 13/05/2006 10:03

I've had squeezy vegemite and it's the same - not runny at all - it's quite wasteful because loads ends up in the tube.

TwoToTango · 13/05/2006 10:09

These replies have given me something to think about especially the environmental one. I do like to recyle where I can so I will probably be sticking with the good old glass jars.

the advert on the TV implies you put a huge amount of marmite on a slice of bread - anyone following that for the first time would think it was disgusting !

Surely you get too much marmite and in the wrong place when you squeeze it out ?

And is it really too difficult to use a knife in the normal way ?

throckenholt · 13/05/2006 10:10

I saw a marmite tanker once driving down the A1 - had a silly grin on my face for the rest of the day Grin

As a life long marmite addict, I would feel a bit odd buying squeezy marmite!!! I like the glass jars.

(How can marmite come out of a squeezy when it is so thick)

milge · 13/05/2006 10:51

\link{http://www.marmite.com/love/squeezy\here it is}

puff · 13/05/2006 10:53

But it would mean I can stick my knife in and suck the marmite off it yum

RTKangaMummy · 13/05/2006 10:56

Some of it would still be wasted cos it will coat the sides of the tube or whatever they call it

I don't really like the idea personally

BettySpaghetti · 13/05/2006 11:20

Waitrose here stocks it too. It is more expensive per 100g than the jars though.

It also annoys me that it was easy to use it all from the jar and then recycle it but how do you get it all out of a squeezy tube without wasting some and is the plastic suitable for recycling?

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 13/05/2006 11:36

Sainsburys have it!!!

I wasnt too impressed, so we are back to jars, and it didnt last as long....

threebob · 13/05/2006 21:12

Here vegemite in tubes is sold in camping and tramping shops - it's never been suggested for home use. I have taken the tube on holiday - wouldn't take a glass one. Anyway it's a moot point because I have to buy the gluten free stuff now.
