Bread to serve 40?

How much bread do you think I need to get for a bread and soup lunch at which there will be about 40 people. Hungry ones as they'll have been working outdoors all morning.

Five loaves and two fish has been shown to be more than adequate.

No fish! They're all vegetarians.

I would probably get 8 - 10 French sticks

I'd guess two rolls per person or one loaf between eight.

That works out at a somewhat biblical five loaves.

Thanks. I've been asked for some to be gluten free. Do any of the big supermarkets do any gluten free bread (preferably morrisons as en route to event)?

French loaves will be cheaper 6inches each and a few spare for the hungry ones.

Sorry I got my sums wrong. I get eight rolls or one loaf out of a pound of flour.

I should have said two rolls each or one loaf between four - ten loaves.

MousyMouse · 15/03/2013 16:54

yes all big supermarkets sell gf bread. sometimes quite hidden, though.

yelpol · 15/03/2013 17:02

I think 15 loaves if they're very hungry, so a bit less than 1/3 loaf per person (which is about 3 very thick slices) with soup. Rather a bit too much than have some go hungry...

A bit more than a third even (math's brain not working)
