Keeping fish and chips warm

What is the best way to keep fish and chips from the chippy warm? I was thinking spread out on an oven tray lined with baking parchment, in the oven on a low heat, say 50 degrees? Am I right? Or should they be wrapped or covered? I was wondering if keeping them covered would make them soggy.

Any ideas?

i would let them go cold then reheat in a very hot oven when they were needed

being kept at 50degs will just dry them out

So keep them wrapped as they are, then reheat uncovered?

unwrap to cool quickly, then reheat really quickly

have to ask, why don't you just buy them when you need them?

A long and boring story. We have moved to a village with no local chippy. My husband usually gets home from work at 7.30 during bath time. The children usually sleep by 8.15 or 8.30.

We can either wait for them to sleep, then one of us head out which would be about a 45 minute round trip, or my husband can pick them up on the way home from work since it is on his way, which would leave them sitting about half an hour before we can eat them. I'm sorry for how tedious that explanation is. We have an amazing Chinese takeaway in the village but we have lived here now for 6 months and my Fridays are getting a bit samey. Oh, we also have a kebab van but I am pregnant so can't drink 17 pints before trying it.

that's neither long nor boring!

there's a village near us that comes out in force every weds when the chip van parks up Grin

I hear you. I never knew how much I needed a chippy until I didn't have one.

Or, now that we are country mice instead of London mice, how much I need a takeaway on a Sunday.

My MIL just chucks them in her gas oven still wrapped in the oil soaked paper.

Waitrose frozen battered cod and their fat steak chips are a good substitute.

I know this thread went on some time ago but I've just come across it by accident so thought I would chip in. If you want to keep fish and chips or any takeaway food hot while transporting it home, you can buy the insulated pizza/hot food delivery bags (that the pizza delivery guys use) on Amazon for around 20 - 25 and this will keep your fish and chips hot from the shop for well over half an hour. I have a chippie five minutes from where I live but it's not very good and a much nicer one is a 20 minute there-and-back bus ride away. The insulated bag makes sure I can get the family favourites home in good time for us to enjoy them fresh and hot.

I tend to shove the whole pack in a 80 degree oven.

Spreading out on trays sounds a PITA - you might as well cook!
