Has anyone found any decent ready meals for kids 2 years plus?

I guess 'make a big batch of (eg) lasagne and freeze it in old takeaway boxes ready to microwave' isn't the answer you're looking for...

PanicPants · 05/05/2006 16:31

Babylicious do ready meals for toddlers I think, but don't know if there over 2, and so do asda.

But just as quick and much nicer for you to do Mrs Badgers ideas though :)

jimmy2 · 08/05/2006 14:11

Thank you. There really does seem to be a lack of good handy reay meals for when you are really busy. Idealy I would like Organic, but I think I will have to make that myself!

Kiddylicious is for 12 months + I think. I'm a lazy mum who loves Babylicious - looking forward to upgrading him soon...

jimmy2 · 08/05/2006 14:22

Hi Tutter, is it organic?

OP posts:
Tutter · 08/05/2006 14:25

i don't think it is jimmy2. i choose organic ingredients when i cook for him myself but haven't come across anything organic that is as 'fresh' (despite being frozen all ingredients are fresh when cooked) as babylicious. i feel happier with it than jars as there's no preservatives in there. hth.

zippitippitoes · 08/05/2006 14:58

Haven't tried them but these look good \link{http://www.cookfood.net/order/\ food online from cook}

Tutter · 08/05/2006 14:59

oh zippi they are great

but even more £££ than babylicious

cook rules - how many times have i passed off their meals as my own... Blush

Tutter · 08/05/2006 15:00

(i'd totally forgotten about their baby food btw)

jimmy2 · 08/05/2006 16:12

Roggydoll how old is your little one? My ds is 2 1/2 & I am not sure 200gms would be large enough...he does eat a lot despite being thin!

Hi there

I was avidly listening to your discussions about childrens meals as I am the owner of an organic babyfood company called Goodness Knows. We already make 9 varieties of organic purees that mums can mix themselves but are keen to make a really user friendly toddler line.

We were thinking about more meat dishes so any feedback on family favourites would be extremeley welcome (nb my daughter is 2 and a half so will be a chief product tester!!)

Gemmasmummy · 20/09/2006 16:15

Never use ready meals because they're expensive and I don't know what goes into them!

My toddler eats either either homemade stuff, same as us, or things like baked beans, fish fingers, frozen peas and tinned sweetcorn, which take less than 10 mins to prepare, on those rare occasions that she isn't eating with us or we are eating something she doesn't like (e.g. curry). I freeze any leftovers in toddler-size portions in little plastic boxes.

If I were to serve a ready meal, I would buy one that I thought she would like and give her a bit of what we were having.

I'm sure there is a market for toddler ready meals though, particularly the organic ones. I'm sceptical about the whole organic thing though, surely home made non-organic is better than processed organic?

nailpolish · 20/09/2006 16:18

there are lots of meals that take less time to make than a ready meal

boiled egg and soldiers
pasta
wraps
soup
chicken salad
savoury rice

assuming the reason you like ready meals is because of the quickness

nailpolish · 20/09/2006 16:20

a 2 yr old can basically eat whatever you are having too, no need for seperate meals

also forgot

beans on toast
cheese on toast
omlette
potato wedges

etc

hth

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 16:22

I noticed these in waitrose the other day

They are not organic but they do seem to use meat that is free from antibiotics etc

I woudlnd't use personally as I can make all these things but I guess if i were in a real hurry i might (though would usually just make a sarnie!)

collision · 20/09/2006 16:23

My boys ate M&S spaghetti and meatballs ready meal last night and loved it.

colditz · 20/09/2006 16:23

TBH I would give one of those dolmio pasta things with some grated cheese on or something for a 2 year old.

Mercy · 20/09/2006 16:31

M&S do ready-meals for children. The 2 I have bought seem fine to me (although not organic)

dreamteamgirl · 20/09/2006 16:38

Bry, your range looks great. Have never seen it before

Family favourites here are
chicken chasseur with new pots, mash or rice
Spag bol
Meatballs and pasta or spagetti
Fish Pie
Shepherds Pie

Jimmy, I do think there is a place for easy healthy microwave meals for toddlers 1+ and 2+. I work F/T and dont always have time to cook up some freezer stocks every weekend, and some night we only have 1.5 hours with my DS. I dont want to spend all that time cooking

Time2 · 22/07/2007 13:16

I have actually found some Organic ready meals for kids. They are 250g and delicious. My dd loves them, especially the macaroni cheese and the past bolognese. They are called Juniorganic and are sold through a number of omline shops. The web is www.juniorganic.co.uk.

DrNortherner · 22/07/2007 13:29

Annable Karmel has just launched some kids ready meals - Eat Fussy

Time2 · 25/07/2007 17:57

Yes, I have seen these, but they are not organic. They also have quite a lot of salt in them.
