Fantastic puddings needed to make me look like Nigella

My village hosts a charity buffet dinner each year and this year, I have drawn the short straw and am on puddings. Its very much "competitive courses" so I don't want to resort to the chilled section at M&S. Plus, itts on Saturday, so I don't have much time, plus I am working every day up to an d including Saturday, with dh away until Saturday lunchtime, and a nanny who can't cook, so please help me MN.
So far, I have decided on;
Great local cheese(ordered already), bread, biscuits, grapes.
Fresh fruit salad with cava tipped over just before serving
Fresh fruit dipped in chocolate
White chocolate and strawberry cheesecake
Chocolate Mousse
Local ice cream and clotted cream to go with.

I need another 2 puddings( not lemon tart or chocolate brownies with raspberries, which is what is served every year. Also can't be something that is served warm, out of the oven, as it needs to be transported to our village hall where there are no cooking facilities. Moondog, any other foodies, please???

black forst gateau?

SenoraPostrophe · 03/05/2006 20:52

or carrot cake's easy (and would be an extra dairy free option)

Carrot cake's a great idea - thought about tarte tatin, but never made it before. Thanks for your ideas, sp

Don't know how a pudding can make you look like Nigella. She's anything but if you ask me Grin

How about a Pavlova using bought meringue bases? You could do a big one or individual sized ones. Just pile some raspberries (or fruit of your choice) on the meringue, and put whipped cream on top. Yummy and minimum effort

SenoraPostrophe · 03/05/2006 20:54

oh yum yes, pavlova. or just strawbs and cream. mmmmm

Nigella's pavlovas in forever summer book - choc and rapsberry one and passion fruit one

Pommegranates (sp?) with greek yoghurt and honey, delicious although separating the bits of fruit is quite tedious.

Tiramisu'?

You can make it the day before and keep it in the fridge...

how about some nice biscuits... macaroons are lovely after a meal or my nigella favoute -- rhubarb fool served with shortbread biscuits

my mum used to make one called "Goo"
off the top of my head.....
Put crushed pineapple into a dish and top with a 1/2 - 1/2 mixture of thick Greek yoghurt and double cream. Then sprinkle muscovado sugar on the top....

best made the day before because then the sugar soaks down into the topping. It's so simple but lovely at the same time.

If you are interested and want exact quantities let me know....

Nigella does a fabulous chilled lemon rice pudding. Very easy to make and tastes divine.
