anyone know if you can buy baby food jars in menorca? otherwise I will have to stash a load in my suitcase.

Failing that what can I give ds abroad (15 months), i know i know, but he still eats mainly jars at home

give him what you have... saves lugging a load of glass jars with you!

lucy5 · 03/05/2006 14:00

In Spain Hipp organic is sold, so I gues it might be the same in Menorca. Spanish brands do tend to be a bit salty.

mosschops30 · 03/05/2006 14:01

but I'll go out and eat steak and chips, he wont eat that, and I dont want to give him nuggetts and chips at every meal.
He eats the hipp ones here

ditch the jars and give him ordinary food he'll love it

littlerach · 03/05/2006 14:03

We fed Dd1 in Zakynthos pasta or moussaka or something similar when she was a bit older than your ds.

Planning ti do the same with Dd2 this year.

starlover · 03/05/2006 14:03

why can't he eat steak and chips?

lucy5 · 03/05/2006 14:08

Tortilla is good and easy to eat, tapas portions would be perfect for a child of that age. You often get pasta ones, meatballs which you could mush, avocado is popular here too, as are chick peas and lentils [lentejas] would be ideal too.

mosschops30 · 03/05/2006 14:10

oh god I am just so crap, find it much easier to do jars, and he loves them.

Wouldnt mind but I have just spent 7 weeks on a hv placement advising mums about feeding babies Blush then go home and get my hipp jars out Blush

chicken is pretty common too and fish of course, rice dishes

or steak and chips Grin

starlover · 03/05/2006 14:12

slight tangent...

for weaning off jars (if you want to)
i try and make things that ds can eat too (he is also 15 months), or that i can easily modify for him.

if i can i eat with him, if not I might make something for dp and I, and save a portion for ds to have the next day.
so it's no extra work really and it saves money too! (which you already know)

starlover · 03/05/2006 14:13

but honestly, ther eis no reason why he couldn't have a few chips and some steak cut into little pieces!

when we're out we tend not to order him something separate, just get an extra plate and make him a meal out of ours! stingy i know

mosschops30 · 03/05/2006 14:35

but then he ends up not eating anything, I made pizza the other night, just bog-standard cheese/tom, dd had hald but he just sucked on a few bits and I ended up giving him a jar.
Tonight we are having chicken fajitas!!!!!!!

He will sit and eat pieces of toast quite happily and biscuits, but not great with anything else

starlover · 03/05/2006 14:37

i sometimes do pizza and ds gets a small piece, chopped up but i'll give him something with it like potato wedges and peas which i know he will eat... so even if he doesn't have much of the pizza i know he's still had a fair amount of food.

then banana or yoghurt for pudding

Laura032004 · 03/05/2006 15:09

If you want to wean him off the jars, try making the same meals yourself. I used to look at their ingredients and copy them, and now DS is quite used to normal food.

Is he eating the correct stage jars for his age, or does he have a problem with lumps in food?

Laura032004 · 03/05/2006 15:10

Could you take his normal breakfast cereal, so at least he has some familiar meals?

mosschops30 · 03/05/2006 16:49

he eats toast for breakfast so thats not a problem.
he did have a problem with lumps, didnt move on from 4mnth purees until nearly 12 months, but he's ok with them now

How long have you got before your holiday to wean him off jars?

Try pasta, veggies things he can eat with fingers. Keep offereing and he will eat it I am sure. At 15 months if he misses a meal because he doesn't eat much he will not starve before the next meal, and will then eat. Even if you end up giving him toast atthe 2nd meal if he hasn't eaaten well.

Every Spanish restaurant we went into did 'pasta and sauce' for children - small bowl of spaghetti, served with another bowl of tomato-based sauce, and another of finely grated cheese. DS also loved peaella - and they do have loads of rice and meatball type dishes. Everywhere was quite happy to do small child-sized portions of rice and pasta dishes. They didn't seem to do nuggets.

Anyway, I am sure they will sell jars in menorca, and remember your Ds won't get a luggage allowance, so won't be able to carry heavy jars!

Tommy · 03/05/2006 18:14

take a couple of jars then put normal food intro the jars so he thinks he's getting a jar and then you've wonthe battle of the jars!
(so says the woman whose DSs eat nothing except bread and butter so probably best not to pay any attention to me Blush)
