My two youngest children 8 and 6 get up early and raid the fridge and cupboards for breakfast. I provide things they an help themselves to like cereal, bread and jam or peanut butter or those chocolate pancakes wrapped up/chocolate chip brioches but recently cut much of it because it's mostly sugary. So I'm looking for some ideas on healthier things they can help themselves to.

Could you not just get healthier cereal? We have weetabix and porridge and mine do that themselves. (6&8) Or they can make toast.

They could do beans on toast in the microwave.

Sardines on toast?

Yogurt and fruit. Flapjacks, English muffins, nice cereal that's not sugary, or oats so simple

My two (12 and 9) eat porridge with honey, all bran, Cheerios, fruit, smoothies, banana bread (we use a low sugar recipe) or a slice of homemade bread that they toast straight from frozen. I don't trust my 9 year old with the microwave or the toaster yet though. The main thing for us was watching their portion sizes. Left to their own devices they will create a mountain of Cheerios, add a tablespoon of sugar, a jug of milk and slather it with syrup.

Trouble is I will need to lock away all sugar, syrup and honey if I give them healthier cereal. And then they probably won't touch it. Could provide individual sachets maybe.....
Was thinking of healthier muffins so will check out some recipes. I could freeze some and leave two out overnight ready for the morning.
Any kind of preparation by them is going to result in a bombsite for me to clear up so I would be nervous of encouraging them to heat beans or spread sardines.

I also have kids who are liberal with the honey, syrup etc. I put it on the top shelf with strict instructions to leave it there, only to find 6 year old defying gravity with aid of piled up chairs, retrieving the syrup....

How about malt loaf or hot cross buns? They don't need to put butter or jam on those

You could make them a sandwich/roll/wrap/bagel each the night before and leave it in the fridge.

Or make a frittata every few days, leave each a wedge and a roll.
