Limited diet and won't try new things

Please has anyone any ideas?

My 4 year old has a very limited diet mainly tinned spagetti shapes, spagetti shapes and sausages, chicken nuggets, carrots, potatoes, carrots, dry bread, home made spagetti bolognaise, occasionally baked beans and coco pops. She eats all the "junk food", crisps, biscuits, McDonalds, sweets etc. She doesnt seem to be unhealthy and seems to be in proportion height / weight wise.

I have tried bribing her to try new things, shouting, ignoring, cutting out snacks and drinks between meals. How can i get there to try new things, I wouldnt mind if she tried things and didnt like them but she won't even try new things. Has anyone got any ideas or experienced the same. Please dont suggest Ananbel Karmel cheese hedghogs - been there done that !!! Any help gratefully received

I love the chipmates and roast potatoes suggestion. Does anyone else cook for 15 minutes before to let the food cool down so a toddler can eat it or am I being sensitive

Oh yes, I have to do that!! My Charlie won't eat hot food, the colder and more congealed the better in his opinion! He is 3 next month and perfectly capable of, and enjoys, blowing on food to cool it down, but if I serve it hot he will lose interest in the whole meal. How old is your son - can he blow on his food?

charliesmummy · 19/02/2002 12:11

My Charlie is 14 months - so no blowing, just throwing!. Although he is now doing the shush thing with his finger in front of his mouth, I tell you this totally unrelated thing cos I am sooo proud!

My boy is nearly three and has a total aversion to hot food. Everything needs to be at room temp. or stone cold. "Too hot" were just about his first words. His sister, aged one will eat anything at any temperature...strange creatures, kiddies...

Interesting to haer about food temperatures. One of my worries at the moment is the time it takes my 2 year old to eat anything - particularly hot things. Maybe I should leave then to cool alot more to begin with because by the time she's finished a meal it is all stone cold and makes no difference to her! Any suggestions on getting her to eat things herself? she used to do this and is perfectly capable of using a fork and a spoon but won't!1

I know this is an old thread, but reading it has really cheered me up! My ds eats fish fingers, potato waffles, toast, fromage frais, rice crispies, apples and milk and that's it, and it drives me nuts. Oh, and also spaghetti hoops which have a symbol on the side of the tin stating that they contribute towards the 5 a day for fruit and veg. Is that right?
