Kenwood Chef or Kitchenaid?

I know this has probably been done before, did have a quick look but 5mo baby means not much Internet time! I've wanted a kitchenaid for years but now it's come to actually getting one I don't want to be taken in by the looks and end up with a mixer I can't use for what I need it for (cakes, bread, meringues etc)

The Chef seems to be more sturdy and better made (metal gears instead of plastic, for instance) please help me decide mnetters!

I dont think anyone should confuse a new model with one they've had for over 10 years. I went on a course recently to Squires Kitchen they have KAs but they dont think they are made to the same standard as they used to be are are slowly dying and need replacement. The KC - the same really - sadly no longer made to in the UK and arent of the same quality. As really they didnt think there was a difference its just the aesthetics.

Well my KC arrived this morning and I used it this afternoon to make a fatless sponge, I was really pleased with it. I've only used the whisk so far but will be making bread at the weekend and probably some cupcakes in the next couple of days so I'll see how it goes with those.

bacon nothing is made as well as it used to be, I seem to buy a new laptop every year!

Bacon you are probably right but I still love my KC!

Foxy OOoooh! Exciting! Have fun! If you use the all in one method for your cupcakes mind you don't over mix - all too easy with a stand mixer!

Updated now I've made a banana loaf, some wholemeal bread and some chocolate muffins.

All came out fantastic! The bread had quite a close crumb but wasn't stodgy, I think next time I might leave it kneading a bit longer than the suggested time. I used the recipe in the kenwood cookbook.

Really happy with it but I do still look wistfully at kitchenaids when I see them Grin

I look at the Kitchenaids and I've got one! There's always a colour you think you should have got purple instead of the safe colour you did get red

FoxyRoxy · 27/02/2013 09:28

But was it candy apple red gwen?

I love my KC and have no complaints. KA's are ok but I'm a KC girl at heart.

Like mackerella I grew up around my mums KC. She also has the orange and brown one. It's still going strong (my mum has always made cakes every week) it must be nearly 40 yrs old. That old KC is part of my childhoodGrin

Lol Grin I've just remembered when my mum got that orange mixer in the 70's. It seemed like the height of modernity. She planned her new kitchen around it too which had orange cupboard fronts also.

It is candy apple red. It's a bit more sparkly than boring old empire red :o

Hi there... I have Kenwood chef at home ...and it's fabulous. Have it for two + years. It's great to have it. No idea about the other stuff.
