Hi. This is my first time posting in Food so don't really know the etiquette so will just jump straight in if that's okay.

My DH is a bit of a fussy eater. He caters for his breakfast and lunch but as I am at home at the moment I am mainly responsible for dinners though he cooks in the weekend. He doesn't like vegetables unless they are very fine. Has an allergy to milk and cream but can have cheese (go figure). Wants some kind of meat in all his dinners. Does not like the taste of tomato - has to be disguised. Oh and the most annoying one doesn't like to eat the same thing two days in a row. I have been cooking the same 10 or so dishes for a while now alternating between them but DH is starting to get bored of them. I need some inspiration for meals I can make for dinner that are a winners with men and fit my DHs other requirements. Please can you lovely ladies assist me with some recipe suggestions.

Tell us your current repertoire!

Mmmm. Do you think you should point out that you're not a restaurant? Seriously, I would approach this one as I would a fussy child. Choose dishes where everyone can choose the things they like and help themselves. For instance, tacos: make up a bolognese/chilli and put it in the centre if the table with plates of grated cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, chilli peppers etc. he can then assemble his taco the way he likes it ... Loads if similar dishes where you do something similar.

peacefuloptimist · 06/02/2013 22:13

-Lasagne
-Stir fry chicken and vegetables (he picks these out) with noodles
-fish pie
-shepherds pie
-grilled chicken with chips
-roast chicken and potatoes with rice
-kebabs with potato, aubergine
-egg fried rice
-a lamb stew thing with djion mustard
-margherita pizza
-chicken biryani

There are other things I can make but these are the ones I normally end up cooking for him. I like prawns and couscous (not together) but he doesn't so I normally make them separate from his meal. He lived on takeaways for years whilst he was single so it has corrupted (in my opinion) his palate. Anything with meat in it will be a hit.

Penandspoon I have pointed this out to him several times. The cheeky thing is that I know for a fact he wouldn't have grown up like that eating different food everyday, made to order, as his mum worked long hours and does not cook very much. My mum is a brilliant cook but even she used to make us a set number of dinners with occasional new or rarely cooked meals on special days. I just want a few new recipes to add to my repertoire as I do feel myself that I'm getting a bit repetitive.

As a veggie, I am probably not best placed to help!

What a pain though, no tomatoes or creamy sauces limits things considerably.

I would make a lentil daal, you could add chicken, sausage casserole, homemade burgers (with grated disguised veg), frittata, ham in coke, fajitas....does that help?

IDismyname · 06/02/2013 22:30

Meat balls with rice or spaghetti. He can have then w/out the nice tomato and onion and garlic sauce you're going to cook them in!

Or this:www.deliaonline.com/recipes/main-ingredient/pork/spanish-braised-pork-with-potatoes-and-olives.html. It does have tomatoes in, but so - I'm guessing does your lamb and mustard dish

Beef and ale stew with dumplings?

Thai green or red curry. He can pick out anything he doesn't like

Toad in the Hole?

MisForMumNotMaid · 06/02/2013 22:32

Rissoto, fajitas, tacos, pasta dishes like macaroni cheese, chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with garlic butter, roasts, jacket potatos, tuna steak with chilli and lime, bangers and mash, toad in the hole (is milk okay when cooked?), omlets,

peacefuloptimist · 06/02/2013 22:46

Thanks for the suggestions. These look great. Tomatoes are okay as long as they don't make the dish taste tomatoey. Milk when cooked is okay. Oh and no pork dishes. Is it okay if you post a link to a tried and tested recipe you would recommend. Some of these dishes, like rissoto, I have thought about making but am a bit unsure about which recipe to follow.

Jamie Oliver has a green chilli in one of his books, I don't think it has tomato in. Although I think it might be pork mince, but might work with turkey or beef...

For risotto there are lots of different recipes on bbc good food. If I'm busy I often do an oven baked one which turns out almost as good as a stirred constantly for 20 mins one:
