DS2 has started himself on a health kick. He is rather cuddly and school are weighing and measuring them soon, which may have prompted him. I am very impressed. He's only 10 but is rejecting all crisps and biscuits in his lunch box or after school. (Not offering them now, obv!)

But I'm guessing he's getting very sick of carrot sticks.

Please does anyone have any bright ideas for healthy treats - home made or shop bought, to include as extras. He usually has a smoothie and either a cooked lunch in a wide flask or a sandwich, yoghurt, and chopped veg or fruit. Getting a bit monotonous. he's been at it for 8 days now. I'm really proud of him and want to encourage him. Bought rice cakes but they didn't go down well.

MrsWol, thank you. There are some great ideas on there.

So far I have:

mini fruit muffins (blueberry, raspberry or banana)
veg sticks with humous to dip into instead of just on their own.
popcorn
low fat yoghurts
low fat, high fruit/veg cakes eg banana or carrot
tinned fruit in fresh fruit juice

Oatcakes with low fat cream cheese

Pretzels or breadsticks? (not mentioned on their website)

Better get cooking.

Quorn sausages? Protein so filling but without the fat. They do cocktail sausages which are nice but slightly higher in fat...

That's a great idea. He loves quorn. Thanks. Good tip.

Very impressive! Good job your son!

He is likely to get a bit bored of this health kick and also he will need something satiating and as he is still growing, he does need fat and protein. Try to avoid white carbs (bread, pasta etc).

How about eggs? It's a great source of good protein and also filling. My 8 y o DD love hard boiled eegs. We are also great fans of "egg muffins", basically whisk eggs together and add bits of ham or bacon, put it in cup cake forms (we have silicone ones) and in the oven for 25 min. at 200 degrees celcius. I make 12 our of 12 eggs. They are lovely hot or cold (can be reheated in microwave).

I expect he would like an apple or a banana as well, if he is not too hungry.

Along the egg lines above, my kids love egg pancake wraps. Lightly beat a couple of eggs and pour into a lightly oiled large frying pan. Swirl the egg around until the bottom is covered and cook through for just a minute or so until set. Slide it out of the pan and use this as a wrap for fillings like chopped ham, cheese or leftover chicken. Great alternative to bread and wraps. Don't use too much oil or they'll be greasy.
