Which bread for Bruchetta?

I love bruschetta and always order it in restaurants. I'd like to now try and make it at home, but what sort of bread should I use? I don't have easy access to posh Italian deli's, mainly just supermarkets and local bakery. Thank you! Smile

Ciabatta is good.
Just make sure and use a fully baked one as a lot of supermarkets sell part-baked ciabattas.

I find sourdough bread good as it soaks in the juice without breaking/ getting soggy right through.

Or Tesco (prob any supermarket?) 'Pain de Campagne' - I think. The round white one - lovely.

I have a lovely recipe for tomato bruschetta if you'd like it?

I've tried lots of bruschetta recipes and think this is the nicest - really fresh and flavoursome

Bruschetta with tomato and basil

1 Ciabatta loaf, sliced into 2.5cm slices
1 large red onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 tbspns olive oil (pref extra virgin)
Juice of half a lemon
1 small red chilli, very finely chopped
Handful of fresh basil
8 medium tomatoes, deseeded and chopped

Toast the ciabatta slices (grill, oven or toaster).
In a large mixing bowl mix the onion, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and chilli.
Take the basil leaves, roll them up together almost like a cigar, and slice. Add these to the bowl, then add the chopped tomatoes.
Top each toasted slice with some of the mix.

Enjoy Smile
