I have ham and want to make soup, what do I add to it?

I have some ham left over from last night's dinner and want to turn it into soup.

I have various flavoured stock cubes, a few different herbs, a butternut squash, couple of carrots, asparagus and not much else.

Oh and there might be some frozen onion and mushrooms in the freezer.

Any suggestions?

Ham and butternut would be nice. Sweat an onion, chuck in the ham and some cubes of peeled butternut (and a handful of red lentils if you have them) plus a stock cube, salt and pepper and some herbs, and enough water to cover. Simmer until butternut is cooked (10 minutes will do if the cubes are small), cool a bit then blend. Serve with bread and some cheese.

Thanks...I've done my usual - chuck everything in within arms reach Blush

So far, it has ham, butternut squash, carrot, onion, stock, peas, asparagus and orzo pasta.

It's more like stew and tastes ok...DS says he'll have some in a flask for packed lunch tomorrow so it can't be too bad Grin.

I've used the rest of the squash and ham to make risotto for tea tonight and managed not to add any other random ingredients!
