Can you add milk instead of water?

Hi there, I am in the middle of weaning DS and he loved the stuff I gave him at lunchtime however, I did it with boiled water as per the instructions. Is it OK to use his milk instead. Can't remember from last time around.

I think if the food states that water is to be added is uaually means that it already has milk solids in it - I think it depends on the food really. I think if you are only in the middle of weaning then you will probably be following the food with a breast or formula feed anyway so I doubt that they will be missing out on valuable nutrients - may I ask why you want to add milk instead of water.

Was it babyrice?

As far as I can remember and it was only last year......where is my brain?......yes, it is fine to use milk.

Mermaid2 - I always made it with water and cooled it with milk so I think that it's fine.

Thanks for the advice.

Jaybee, I was thinking of adding milk as he doesn't seem to want his bottle at lunchtime anymore. Just thought it would be useful to use milk so he's getting it somehow. It was cereal rather than baby rice which he hated. He has been trying lots of different things this included.

If it was cereal then depending on the brand it may already have milk in its ingredients. Check on the label to see.

Yes, some cereals contain dried milk of some sort so they are supposed to be made up with water. You can also get some that are supposed to be made up with milk. From memory, Heinz do an apricot one to make up with milk, which went down well with my ds.

Are you giving the bottle before or after the solids? I used to give the bottle first until ds was on a more substantail (protein) meal at lunchtime. If you are worried about dairy intake they are usually happy to scoff yogurt or fromage frais.

HTH.

gingernut - if weaning has only just started then the bab will be too young for dairy products - I think the milk mermaid2 will be refering to will either be ebm or formula.
