Hello. I want to make some soup but in the past only seem able to end up with a thick starchy gloop. It makes me feel a bit sick. I have onions carrots butternut squash but when I did it before it became wallpaper paste once I liquidized it. Any suggestions?

Go for more 'broths' ...clear soups with identifiable bits and pieces in it rather than blending it to a mush. Things like Minestrone or Chicken Broth for example. BTW. if you liquidise a soup and it's too thick, just let it down with a lot more stock or water until you get the consistency you like.

Yes I think I'd prefer a chunky broth instead. Bit like a stew I guess. It's that starchy gloop I can't stomach

You could try this one......

2 -3 pints stock or water
a little oil/butter
2 celery stalks, 2 carrots, 1 onion & 4oz cooked smoked ham (or lean smoky bacon or garlic sausage) all diced small
1 can cannellini beans, drained
Seasoning
Chopped parsley

Sweat the diced veg and meat in the oil for about 10 mins on low. Add the stock, season and simmer until the veg are tender. Finally, add the drained beans and chopped parsley. Heat through and serve.

Yrs I was thinking of adding pulses as trying not to eat bread but need a good chomp.

Pulses are delicious, nutritious, also econonical... (big fan). If you don't like 'gloop' then choose green lentils or bigger which will stay whole. Red lentils tend to dissolve into a fluff.

Have you tried pushing it through a sieve after you've liquidised the soup? I made carrot & orange over Christmas and that's what the recipe told me to do. Made it lovely & smooth and even the DCs asked for second helpings!

Try putting the veg in the food processor before cooking: get fairly fine bits but not the same mush as you get from blending the soup at the end. Also use more water to get it less gloopy.
