Hi,

I would like to find out what kind of timetable everyone has when feeding their kids.

For example:

0730-0800- Porridge
1100-1130- Lunch
1400-1500- Afternoon fruit snack
1700-1800- Dinner
1930-2000- Porridge

So how do you do it?

OP posts:
jmum6 · 16/04/2006 20:15

7.30 - porridge or weetabix with fruit puree & bottle

11.30 - 5 cubes of dinner and yoghurt

3.30 - bottle

5.30 - 5 cubes of tea and banana or other fruit

7.30 - bottle

plus finger food during the day

jmum6 · 16/04/2006 20:16

And water with dinner or tea

Seona1973 · 16/04/2006 20:18

dd 2 1/2 tend to have the following times:

7.30/7.45 - breakfast
10.30 - snack (normally fruit)
14.00 - lunch (after her nap)
17.00/17.30/18.00 - dinner

Sometimes she will have a snack in the afternoon between lunch and dinner especailly if dinner is going to be a bit later.

What age is your lo?

jambuttie · 16/04/2006 20:55

we go

7-7.30am breakfast
11-11.30 lunch
2-2.30 snack
5.30-6 dinner

occasionally ds1(4) will have toast/sandwich or fruit around 7, the twins are asleep by 7 so dinners the last for them

7up · 16/04/2006 20:57

7.30 ish breakfast, piece of toast and banana jar

11.30 lunch, jar with added potatoes

after sleep 2ish packet crisps, box raisins

4.30 tea chicken, pots, veg

up to bed time snacks of lolly, rice cakes

Sandi102 · 17/04/2006 13:24

7.30-8.30 - porride, weetabix or toast

10.30-11.00 - fruit or rusks

2.0-3.0 - dinner (veg, pizza or chips with dessert)

4.30 - 2 pots of yog, breadsticks or toast

6.30 - half a chappati with lentil dal or mince lamb or saag

MerlinsBeard · 17/04/2006 13:29

Assuming your lo is only young?

thedamage · 17/04/2006 17:08

She's a one year old.

Actually another question. How did you all start getting your little one to feed herself? Specifically at what age and how?
Cheers!

Sandi102 · 17/04/2006 17:21

well, we are in this phase with ds2 (2 in may) of some food he feeds himself..like chappati and chips..and things which require a spoon he will attempt to feed himself, but hasn't quite mastered it yet..he doesn't like me feeding him with a spoon anymore, (except breakfast) he just stopped virtually over like a couple of days..

with ds1, he was a lazy baby and still is..in that he rarely feeds himself..he is now 6..he can eat anything himself that doesn't require a knife, fork or spoon..seriously..he prefers to use his hands..always has..so i'm rather surprised by ds2's enthusiasm at wanting to feed himself at this age..

thedamage · 18/04/2006 10:57

How important is it for everybody to have a family meal? Have you changed your daily eating timetable to accommodate? We used (before the baby came)to eat our evening meal at 1900ish. But now we are thinking that it has to be 1700-1800 so we can all eat at the same time.

We only really all eat dinner at the same time at the weekends as dh doesnt get home from work till almost 7pm during the week so me and him eat after dd has gone to bed. I only work 2 days a week so the days I am home I have breakfast and lunch with dd and she has her dinner by herself (although I sit at the table with her and we chat while she eats). At the weekend we have all meals together with dinner around 5.30/6pm.

katylou25 · 18/04/2006 13:43

We are:

8.00 Breakfast
10.30 snack
12.30 lunch
3.00 snack
5.45-6.00 tea

DS is 14 months and can feed himself really well , using fingers, or a spoon or fork but has always been really independent and wanted to do it himself.

We changed our mealtime when ds was about 9/10 months so we all eat together in evening most days DH is in by 5.45 so we eat when he gets in if not in by 6 me and Ds eat and his gets cold!! Think it important to have afamily meal even at this early age - think it encourages them to eat well etc Also saves me having to cook twice!

Coolmama · 18/04/2006 19:32

DS is 14 months old, will use a spoon to feed himself and weekdays, I have breakfast and lunch with him or sit with him for his tea, and on weekends we all have lunch together. He still sleeps a lot and am not sure if I should be reducing this?
7 - ish - milk
7.30 -si weetabix/redy brek and fruit
8.30 - 10. 30 - nap
11.00 am snack - toast, rice-cakes, fruit or yoghurt.
1pm lunch - casseroles. stews or fish and veg, fruit
2 - 4 pm nap
5 pm - tea - veggie pasta, risotto,
6.30 big bottle milk and bed.

And then sleeps night through.

chocolateshoes · 18/04/2006 19:51

DS is 9 mths. His food timetable is:

7.30 - Weetbix / Ready Brek & banana, b/feed
10.00 - fruit (not much usually)
11.45 - lunch
3.00 - fruit (will eat a fair bit especilly if peach
5.00 - dinner
6.30 - b/feed
6.45 - bed & sleeps through til woken at 7.25

bramblina · 18/04/2006 20:04

Ds is 8 months.

7.30-8am Breastfeed (unless he woke through the night for it)
9am Weetabix, Porridge, or Ready Brek with fruit
11am Breastfeed
12.30pm Lunch (Minestrone, leek&pot soup, lentils baked pot etc)
2.30pm Breastfeed
3.30pm Finger food snack (cheese, fruit, rice cake, etc)
5pm Dinner (Spag bol, mince&pots, liver, chicken casserole)
6pm Bath then breastfeed, usually in bed about 7pm or just after.

Out of interest, for those who say their lo sleeps through the night- do you actually mean always? Do they never wake? My ds is a great sleeper and only wakes for a feed, but last night he slept through, the previous night he woke at 2 am and the previous night he woke 3 times? Is this erratic behaviour normal?!

bramblina · 18/04/2006 20:05

Coolmama, I'm amazed at how much your lo sleeps! Has he always slept that much or does it change a lot as he grows?

Coolmama · 18/04/2006 20:21

He has literally slept like this since he first started sleeping through the night at about 3 - half months - My dilemma is - do i wake him regularly to try and encourage shorter naps or just leave him be - ?

bramblina · 18/04/2006 20:30

Oh hell no! I wouldn't interfere with his day time naps until it begins to affect how much he sleeps at night! Enjoy the 2hours you can have to yourself! You're very lucky!

cjmummy · 18/04/2006 21:00

My ds is nearly 14 months and is on a nursery routine/timetable.

7.30-8am weetabix/ready brek and toast
9.30am 5 oz milk
11.30-12 lunch - main meal and dessert
2pm 5 oz milk
3.30-4pm tea
5pm snack - rice cakes or raisins etc
6pm 8 oz milk and bed!

Nursery are keen to cut back on the day time milk feeds ... have other people done this at this age?

Coolmama · 18/04/2006 21:05

thanks bramblina - I thought most kiddies did this, but will send lots of thanks to the sleep fairies who decided to smile so sweetly on my house.
Apologies for somewhat hijacking the thread -

Seona1973 · 19/04/2006 13:10

cjmummy, at this age my dd had a couple of ounces of milk in a cup along with her breakfast and a small avent beaker of milk before bed. She didnt have any other milk feeds during the day. From 1 year the minimum they need is around 350mls(12 ounces) and this is inclusive of milk with cereal, dairy products, etc. Does your lo eat solids well as well as all the milk?

katylou25 · 19/04/2006 13:57

cjmummy my ds 14 months only has milk (cows milk in a beaker) last thing at night and 1st thing in morning Think at this age they don't need as much due to getting it in yoghurts, custard, cereal etc.

Am amazed at your 4 hours of nap time cool mama am grateful if ds has an hour after lunch!

cjmummy · 19/04/2006 20:23

Seona1973 my ds eats very very well but isnt a particularly chubby chap. I know he is probably having more milk than is recommended - I have cut his milk down slightly but think I need to cut it down further. He doesnt have any in the morning before breakfast .. but I suppose he is having about 18 ounces some days ... others maybe 12 to 15.

bramblina · 19/04/2006 22:00

I apologise also.
Also forget to say ds always has pudding after dinner, fruit usually or home made rice pudding, or organic yogurt.
