baking potatoes for mash?

I don't want to go to the shops again so...I have 3 baking potatoes from Sainsburys- variety unknown but the ones you buy loose. Has anyone ever used them for mash? I want to make a small fish pie. I've used them successfully for roasting before if that gives any clues. Thanks in advance.

The only thing special about baking tatties is that they're huge. Plenty of milk and butter and you can mash anything!

AWT actually bskes his potatoes for making mash. They're supposedly much nicer this way...

Most baking potatoes are a smooth waxy variety Saxon, Estima or Melody, which are pretty much the exact same as are recommended for mash.

Scooped out insided of baked potatoes make a good mash - good for when you're making potato skins, If it wasn't that liked the skin in the mash I may well do it that way.

thanks everyone. I ended up using puff pastry from the freezer in the end so didn't get a chance to test it out but will next time.
