and she didn't believe me. When I repeated it, she refused to eat it. As she has such a limited diet, I back tracked a bit and said that ham was ham. How old are they before they believe you and should you tell them anyway?

I've told mine from the outset and it's never been a problem - but, if she's fussy with her food, fwiw, I would have done the same as you and backtracked furiously Grin

I tell my kids what they are eating and always have. That way they are not put off when they find out as they have always known what it was. DS is 4 and eats anything and everything!

I tell them, they're gonna find out anyway. But they don't have limited diets, admittedly.

My dad told me when i was about three and had to spend the next two years telling me absolutely everything was chicken Grin

She doesn't seem bothered about chickens for some reason, there is no way she will eat a pig though!

Maybe it's because they have pecky, pointy beaks and beady little eyes?!

ds1 knows what meat comes from which animal and finds it funny that he's eating cow, pig etc. We have to call shepherds pie 'cottage pie with lamb' though, because no matter how much we tell him otherwise he's convinced that he's eating a shepherd!
