hi i am thinking of buying a slow cooker after christmas,my kids have al just started school and nursery and im finding it tiring cooking after the school run so hoping i can do it in my free time in the morning and then it will be ready by the time the kids are hngry after school.

Does anyone have any non tradtional recipes for it?We dont like english food mainly italian/spanish/greek/indian saucy stuff, cooked from scratch.

Thanks!

Curries would be fine in it.

I do a nice Greek bean thing which I imagine would work - google recipes for Greek Giant Beans.

Pork ribs, passatta, chorizo herbs and a tin or bartolli beans - just throw it all in with a bit of boiling water.

Can also be done with chicken.

Beef (I like something lean and boneless), onion (sliced), new potatoes (sliced), chestnuts, dried apricots, 1 tsp baharat spices and you could also add a handful of dried cranberries if you want it to be particularly festive. Add a stock cube and top up with water.

dhal- any variation, with less water than recipe states usually, always works beautifully.

pork belly and chorizo stew from BBC good food is delicious.

keftico lamb.

minestrone soup, any soup in fact.

I've done a chicken laksa in the slow cooker that was beautiful, again the normal recipe but halving the liquid quantity.

Simplest recipe possible:

One unsmoked gammon joint
400g of dark brown sugar

Put sugar in slow cooker, place gammon on top. Cook for at least 7 hours on low. Done!

Frankel, with no liquid?!

FrankelcenseAndMyhrr · 27/12/2012 12:58

No liquid at all. The juices from the gammon will liquefy the sugar. Trust me Grin

Wow!!

I must add, it's not my recipe. Another MNer posted it on a different slow cooker thread, but I've made it several times Grin
