Last year I asked DCs (now in their early 20s) what would they like for breakfast on Xmas day and they both said a selection box! Shows the level of sophistication in the Viper household!

frenchfancy · 18/12/2012 11:50

We normally have croissants.

But I have realise that when I make scones they disappear in a flash, so I'm doing scones this year for Christmas morning.

I can't stand the idea of salmon for breakfast.

multipoodles · 18/12/2012 11:55

Since I was a child I've eaten stuffing sandwiches, everyone else turns their nose up but I love them!

notcitrus · 18/12/2012 16:23

Just cereal, but will be knocking back real coffee and mince pies for elevenses followed by opening the wine and ensuring it is satisfactory, with more mince pies etc.
Just bought my ready-to-bake pains au chocolat for New Years Day, though.

MamaGeekChic · 18/12/2012 16:30

We have brunch with oysters, smoked salmon, Greek salad, foie gras, langoustine and home made bread buns, accompanied by Buck's Fizz, which quickly loses the orange, wine and finishes on cognac. Everyone then falls over or goes for a walk. Christmas dinner is around 6. Joint family effort with mum and brothers and lots of friends to help with the eating and drinking. Although in the past it has caused a few people to miss christmas dinner!

Toasted pannetonne with orange juice.

KnittyFoxyMa · 19/12/2012 10:04

the Morrisons brioche candy cane. yum.

CogitOCrapNotMoreSprouts · 19/12/2012 13:25

At my house Christmas breakfast is smoked salmon, creamy scrambled eggs and some kind of posh toast!! But we are at DM's this year so it will probably be dreary old cornflakes ..... Sad

Kegderee

Spuddybean · 20/12/2012 17:04

Eggs benedict with duck eggs. So easy, all you have to do is toast the muffins and poach the eggs. I buy lovely thick ham and a jar of hollandaise from the deli.

with a glass of bucks fizz!

AdoraJingleBells · 21/12/2012 01:56

I'm buying croissants, pan au chocolat and pan au raisins this year from a French bakers. Will do my favourite smoked salmon and scrambled eggs to go with too. Also thinking of doing Nigella's Christmas muffins this time.

TapirAroundTheChristmasTree · 21/12/2012 02:49

It's our tradition to have pancakes, bacon, and maple syrup on xmas morning - I make the pancakes a couple of days before and freeze them, much less hassle first thing.

notnagging · 21/12/2012 04:06

Pannatone good idea! Smile

Owlfright · 21/12/2012 13:43

tapir I love the idea of freezing pancakes in advance. Would you be able to tell me how you freeze them, and reheat them please? I need idiot proof instructions though as I don't have any natural talent in the kitchen Blush.

TapirAroundTheChristmasTree · 21/12/2012 17:46

I make them, let them cool for about 30 mins (under a clean tea towel) then freeze them between folds of baking paper. Once frozen you can pile them up and keep them in a freezer bag.

To reheat, I stick them in the microwave on full for about 15-20 seconds.

I've got to make loads tomorrow and freeze for Tuesday.

Notalone · 21/12/2012 17:50

I was about to ask why no-one mentioned eggs benedict but have just been pipped at the post by spuddy bean. I defy anyone not to love warm soft poached eggs, crispy bason (sorry Spuddy - HAS to be bacon) and gooey creamy hollondaise sauce on a toasted muffin (veggies can forgo the bacon and even then its still bloody lovely!)Yum Yum!!

BuntysFestiveCollocks · 21/12/2012 17:58

This is our first Christmas alone, we're usually at my parents, and it's usually a grill up. We've decided to have pain au chocolat, croissants, and a cheeky glass of prosecco.

MikeLitorisHasChristmasLights · 21/12/2012 18:07

My dc never eat breakfast on christmas morning, they are just too excited.

This year Im making brioche/pancakey french toast stuff and no one gets a present until they have eaten!

Owlfright · 21/12/2012 22:04

Thank you tapir, it sounds quite straightforward. I'm going to give it a go (crosses fingers).

I love pancakes. The faff of making them tends to nicely limit the amount I manage to eat. Goodness knows how many I'll be able to eat if they are all ready to go Grin.

TapirAroundTheChristmasTree · 22/12/2012 14:40

I bought one of those hotplate thingy that fits over the burners on my hob so I could cook more than one at a time. Much to my dcs delight it means that I make loads.

secret pancake lover

nkf · 22/12/2012 14:42

Is it just me or does eggs Florentine with Irn Bru sound cool?

nkf · 22/12/2012 14:43

Even though I'm not sure what eggs Florentine are.

MonsterBookOfTinsel · 22/12/2012 14:45

Pancakes with.bacon and maple syrup. Mmm

bealos · 22/12/2012 14:45

OOOOOH. This thread has inspired me to text dp and get him to buy some bagels from the Brick Lane Beigel Bake on the way home. Possibly the best bagels ever! Bring on Christmas Day morning...
