Shop-bought cinnamon buns?

BR44 · 14/12/2012 08:50

I want nice warm cinnamon buns on Christmas morning. I have considered making them from scratch but, to be honest, with all the rest of the cooking that's going to go on that day I don't know if I can be arsed.

So, my question is 2-fold -

  1. Where can I buy really good cinnamon buns on Christmas Eve that wont be completely dried out by gentle re-heating in the oven the next morning?
  1. If option 1 isn't viable, has anybody got a tried and tested recipe for super-easy buns, preferably involving pre-prepared ingredients?

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread - love the idea of warm cinnamon rolls for Christmas day breakfast.

This recipe seems to be the least faff of the ones I found if you do end up making them at home.

This recipe uses partially cooked bread rolls, left overnight with the cinnamon and butter. They'd be easy to do, and I have it on good authority that Aldi have very good partially cooked bread rolls to use for this, but it might be a bit dense. Good excuse to do a trial run this weekend? Xmas Wink

Get the part baked frozen cinnamon rolls from ikea, they are gorgeous and you only chuck them in the oven.

I've just seen that the bread roll recipe requires "half a cup of instant vanilla pudding mix". I guess you could use angel delight, maybe the butterscotch one, or just use a tub of cold custard and bake it inside the rolls for a not very authentic but squidgy texture.

Yes, there's a few places around me (south west london) that sell part baked frozen cinnamon rolls, so you should be able to pick them up pretty easily? I thought the "cook" shops did it, but I don't see them listed on the site. The Local Farm Shop does though.

Those Ikea ones are awesome.

Oh the dilemma, the Ikea ones are beautiful, and pretty mch fool proof, but can I justify a trip for them?
Thanks for the recipes, may have to do some research/trial runs :)
Wonder if the croissant dough in a can stuff would work with the cinnamon butter?

ScariestFairyByFar · 15/12/2012 22:30

I keep seeing them in a can on Pinterest but think you can only get them in the US

AnnoyingOrange · 15/12/2012 22:35

Costco

Oooh, thanks all - some great ideas. Ikea was my first thought but I don't drive (yet) and, great as my need for cinnamon bun goodness is, I'm not sure I'm willing to deal with several varieties of public transport with a buggy for it...

I'm now thinking of part-making them during the coming week, freezing them myself and then baking on Christmas morning. There's an excellent Richard Bertinet recipe, according to my DP. We'll see.

Frozen from Waitrose ready to put in the oven. Saw them there on Friday.

Yorky · 16/12/2012 22:12

Inspired by you all I am going to have a go at these tomorrow and will report back

BR44 · 18/12/2012 07:53

Thank you skandi1! Waitrose here I come.

Yorky did you try that recipe? If so, were they any good and would you recommend them?

Thanks Xmas Smile
