Should I get a slow cooker?

There's only the two of us.
I love cooking (does it take the fun out of it?).
I love slow cooked meat ... Mmm pork, lamb mmmm. But really don't like overcooked veg.
Do they just do stew n soup? Can I roast a joint in it? Meatballs?
Is it going to be just another kitchen appliance/ gadget that I don't use?

If it's a yes - which one?
Thanks.

if you love cooking and have loads of time then maybe its not for you. the joy for me is that you bung stuff in first thing and then come dinner time its ready with no intervention required inbetween.

yes you can do joints. we had meatballs in tom sauce yesterday. gammon's good, rice pudding. curry. loads of stuff. i used mine a lot when i lived alone in a flat with no cooker.

you could get a cheap one and see if you like it. removable pot and low/med/high settings are all you need. bit of trial and error to get used to it - use very little liquid and cheap cuts of meat.

I love cooking too, but I also love my slow cookers - yes I have two, different sizes.

The large one will fit a whole chicken in, the small one will just about fit a 1/2 shoulder of lamb.

I often do a roast dinner with the meat in the slow cooker, the veg in the steamer and yorkshire puddings in the oven. Actually I only do the meat, my carer does the rest (and the washing up).

As well as cooking they can be used for keeping things warm, so if I have a buffet I will have the slow cooker keeping somethiing like soup or chicken drumsticks warm.

Home made steak and kidney pudding is really good in the slow cooker.
