yep - had eggs for brekkie and chicken for lunch today.. yum!

foxinsocks · 05/04/2006 17:48

yes, in fact had completely forgotten about the whole thing till I saw the news this morning (the 'pretend we have bird flu' practice run)

Blandmum · 05/04/2006 17:52

Yes, why not? Cooking kills the virus.

Just don't snog any poorly looking chickens

daisy1999 · 05/04/2006 17:57

lol martian !

shellybelly · 05/04/2006 18:00

yep for chicken, don't really have eggs as dd isn't that keen on them at the mo

I do steer clear of the pigeons flying round the bus station tho Grin

MrsBadger · 05/04/2006 18:00

yes, absolutely

you can't catch the virus (H5N1 by the way) from eating cooked poultry or poultry products, only from, as MB says, snogging ill chickens or hanging out in chicken coops. Or with those dodgy-looking teenage wild geese in the park.

expatinscotland · 05/04/2006 18:03

eggs. our diet is nearly all vegetarian and the only meat we buy is free-range, locally produced, so it costs a bit more. we believe in supporting our local free-range and organic farmers, however and will continue to buy their products.

CountessDracula · 05/04/2006 18:13

no blowing up chicken's bottoms either that is lethal by all accounts

Blandmum · 05/04/2006 18:14

especialy when they are still alive.

The can peck like hell Grin

MrsBadger · 05/04/2006 18:14

no, no, you're meant to blow eggs for Easter, not chickens!

Utopia · 05/04/2006 18:22

MrsB - as always you are so right (not being sarcy either!) H5N1.

CD - do you HAVE to spoil my weekends entertainment. I rather enjoy my blowing passtime. Grin

Bugger me, I am absolutely knackered - all 3 up in the night, and the nanny's day off today. I take my hat off to each and everyone of you who doesn't have childcare.

Talking of bugger me, my 3 yr old said "Bugger me I'm cheating" whilst playing a game. Then he said that Albert, the gardener, had buggered him in the garden!

So what do you all think now that bird flu has been confirmed in Fife, Scotland?????

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 05/04/2006 23:00

hasn't been confirmed as H5N1 though

kidstrack2 · 05/04/2006 23:02

i'm still gonna eat chicken and eggs even though it may be in scotland, the chickens and eggs we eat prob are from another country anyways

Norah · 05/04/2006 23:07

the virus is killed at 30 degrees anyway - so anything cooked will not contain live virus !

load of hype about nothing - worry if you have feathers ! don't touch dead birds - and don't hang out with people who handle birds - that's my advise !

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2006 23:13

Good lord yes!

However, it did amuse me to read that whilst the virus is killed by cooking, you can contract the disease (if it was in the UK, which it isn't) by handling raw meat...

so how do you cook chicken without handling it - lol

JanH · 05/04/2006 23:13

It is here. There is a dead swan in Scotland...

Piffle · 05/04/2006 23:14

Tis now, in Scotland- H5 for sure not sure if its HN51 yet though...

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2006 23:14

Norah,

I handle birds (I've got 3 chickens). Can I expect to be persona non grata with my friends then, lol Grin

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2006 23:15

Is it in Scotland? God - never have time to follow the news these days.

Maybe I should work up some anxiety about the issue

(attempting to get concerned...concentrate, concentrate...)

Sorry, no! too pissed.
