Does anyone know?

Is it an oil that would have been used for annointing?

yes - think it's one of those ones like myrrh that was used for anointing a body after death (ick I know).
Tasty though - kind of cinnamony.

MrsB - another name for it is Chinese Cinnamon. Think they are part of the same family.

aha - cassia bark is often what you get if you ask for 'cinnamon' in an Indian grocers - all starting to make sense now...
