Make with strong white flour like Paul Hollywood, self raising like Mary Berry or some other recipe? Ideally they would be more 'afternoon tea' and less 'bread-y'. TIA.

Mary Berry I reckon ;) haven't tried with strong flour, but Mary's recipes usually turn out well!

I always do 8oz sr flour, rub in 2oz butter, mix in 2oz sugar and then 5fl oz milk. The mix looks very wet and sticky but they are always lovely.

.... Although the Mary berry ones do look fab :)

lemonade scones are worth a go!

Pretty much what oddslippers says for me too, not bready. The first one is just using a strong white flour and baking powder, is it maybe just a North American recipe really where SR is much less common? I wouldn't bother with it anyway, no need for the extra eggs.

Thanks all

The Paul Hollywood recipe makes fantastic huge, light and fluffy scones. It's fantastic!
