What to do when 9 month old ds won't eat...

Ds is 9 months old and has always been a bit of a picky eater, but just recently, he's been having bouts of not wanting to eat anything off the spoon at all at certain mealtimes. It mainly tends to be the "good" food that I've cooked for lunch that he won't eat - chicken/fish with vegetables and cheese sauce/ scrambled egg etc. If he won't eat I tend to offer him yoghurt/bits of toast/rice cakes/ bits of fruit which he'll eat fine. My question is, if he won't eat the meal I've prepared, should I try offering him something else until I find something he likes, or am I creating a rod for my own back by doing this? And if I do only offer him the meal I've prepared and he really doesn't want it, will he start to associate mealtimes with tension? I feel so confused and frustrated, any advice would be really welcome.

ok he is only small and just learning!!! i wouldnt worry too much yet... but equally you dont want him to think that you will cook for him something different until he eats...

could you dip toast / bread / bread sticks IN the food. (many babies have the done want to be fed stage (ie you put food in my mouth) but cant do it themselves yet either. Im sure i read that even annabelle karmell dipped bread in her baby concoctions when one of her kids went through that phase!

Also how much milk does he drink.... if he drinks alot more than a pint a day cutting back a bit will make him hungrier for food.

Thanks NannyL, that's really useful advice. I'll definitely try dipping toast in the food, as he loves toast. I have just cut back on his milk by dropping his afternoon milk (which he barely drank any of anyway), and this certainly seems to make him eat more at tea time. I'm really hoping it's a just a phase!
