What are the chances of a 4 week old orange being OK inside?

I have to get ingredients for fruit salad for DS1's cooking lesson next week.

I have half a bag of oranges that have been hanging around for some time, frankly because they weren't very juicy even when fresh.

So, accepting that they will be past their best and weren't that good even then, how likely is it to be rotten inside when he cuts one open at school?

Would you use an old one or buy more?

If there's no mould on the outside I doubt it'll be rotten on the inside. But it'll be even less juicy and even more likely to be dry and shrivelled. Just buy a new one. Oranges are what, 40p?!

I know sparkle, it just that it's food and it'll be wasted. I can waste £10 quite happily, but not food. I'm, also feeling guilty that I bought them in the first place. I should have known they'd never be used.

I'd definitely use an old one for cooking. I can't bear to throw out food either!
