My 9 month old is eating 3 meals a day regularly and up until recently i think he would have eaten mud if i'd given it to him. But of late he seems to have become less willing. However the pickiness only relates to jars of food. He has homemade veg, sometimes with cheese, sometimes with bread or pasta (trying rice next week). But the jars, which he loved aren't going down too well but only ones with tomato in. I was giving him jars for his tea for ease (i go to college 2 nights my husband isn't home at the same time everynight and we don't have a dinner table (in case anyone is judging me ! Wink). But i will be finishing college soon and we will have a dinner table so I want to give him our food. I tried him on turkey mince last night from our tea, mixed with a jar he does like but he spat it out (the first time with spitting).

So i am wondering what proportion of meat, pasta, sauce etc shall i give him and if i'm making our tea with a pre made sauce ( i'm not very 'bakey' or 'cooky' really) what ingredients should i look out for and avoid. Un pasterized egg and nuts i know about.

Any advice would be appreciated, i would speak to my health visitor but i always feel like i'm wasting time she could be spending with mums of tiny babies and she's never at the clinic anymore anyway.

Thanks
Grin

Think the main thing to watch out for in sauces is salt.

Can't really help with the proprtion thing. Things like spag bol, you'd have more pasta than sauce normally.

They do go through fussy phases, just persevere.

my dd went through of phase of eating the jars and now won't touch them, she is almost 9mths and has everything we have, i got the orange feeding bowls from boots which i fill with food (you could always freeze what doesn't get eaten) i tend not to give loads of meat to dd as well but she has sufficient, try to avoid pre made sauces coz they will be filled with salt, i wasn't a cooky person either but once you get into its not too bad (freeze freeze freeze so when you are at college you still have something homemade) if you have a look at delia online she explains how to do sauces, you can get kallo low salt veg stock cubes which someone on MN recommended, i invested in a slow cooker which is great coz you chuck in meat/veg etc and leave it on for hours and can go out and its ready for when you get in Grin infact got some lamb mince/veg on the go at the moment to have with mashed tattie, cabbage and aspargus and I ain't no cook believe me Grin
ps you shouldn't feel like you are wasting HV times, its their job to advise you Grin
pps have a look on the recipes section you'll probably find some really easy recipes you get you going, i just bought dinner ladies second helping cook book vvvv good

he probably realises PROPER food tastes NICE... unlike jars...

i would willingly eat ANY of the home made babyfood i make, but jars DO taste discusting.... all watery and bland.

Agree with others... ready made sauce would be too full of salt...

what about making a big batch of cheese sauce, and freexing it in small portions that could go on the veggies you are eating.

also just "whizz" any of the unprocessed things you are eating and feed him those...

if you are having a tomatoe sauce whizz with a bit of tinned tomatoe to make it runny etc
