misdee · 21/03/2006 12:00

lol, i think i know what u mean. food has always been an issue with the other 2, so dd3 is quite surprising at what she will eat.

I look after a 17 month old and he easily eats as much as my five year old. I have no idea where he puts it all, but as their digestion is not so good, I think more comes out untouched in the nappies. I think the older ones take every scrap of goodness they can from the food ( I hope so anywayGrin)

What about some cuecumber or pepper slices.

I wish i could get my boy to eat fruit but he really doesnt like it but he loves peppers.

elclose · 21/03/2006 13:26

Sounds great, what about some protein though like peanut butter on the bread or some cheese or ham xx just given your lunch plus some cheese to my 3.5 dd and she has only eaten half so good on your lo

Hiya,

As mum to a nut allergy sufferer, just wanted to mention that it is recommended that nuts shouldn't be given to children under 5.

That lunch sounds great to me though :)

Kidstrack2 · 21/03/2006 13:40

Yes

My DD loves cashew butter (as an alternative to peanut butter) for protein. I think my DD who is now nearly 14 months has a good appetite too misdee! I have just started giving her finger food for her tea when she goes to nursery 3 days a week as she wasn't eating the hot "mush" I sent in for her. Seems to be enjoying it.

Have to ask if anyone can suggest ways that I could encourage her to eat more lumpy foods - still spitting out food which have a lumpier texture. Feel she should be past this stage now.

Laura032004 · 22/03/2006 20:54

Glastafairy - is it really age 5 because of nut allergies? I understood it was more to do with the risk of choking, which you won't have with smooth peanut butter. The FSA recommend age 3 for peanut products due to allergy risk. Personally I think if you have no family history of allergies, then you're missing an easy source of protein by completely excluding nuts from a childs diet.

Clure - cashew butter sounds lovely. Where do you get that from? If your dd is eating finger foods, then can you just expand on those? Have you tried feeding her purees mixed with rice? DS still exists mainly on this type of food (won't eat any veg that looks like veg!). I just make him normal meals, and mash or puree them. As he's got older, I've let the lumps get bigger :)

Clure · 23/03/2006 13:39

Laura032004 cashew butter from health shop, also do almond butter. Its a bit expensive but lasts ages as you dont need to use a lot. I also mix a teaspoon in with puree veggies. I will try the rice mixed in with puree veg. Thanks. I did cous cous and she kept spitting that out but that was a few weeks back. I'll keep trying!!

I do give her chunks of veg and fruit which she is happy with - it just seems to be rejected if on the end of a spoon. Will go down the finger food route.Smile
