Readybrek- for a 5month old

Is it ok to give this to ds? On the listed ingredients the sodium is less than 0.1g per 40g serving but one of the ingredients is calcium carbonate - is this a type of salt?
Thanks

I think it's just added salt (ie sodium chloride) that is a problem. I believe that Ready Brek is fine as it has no added salt (IIRC). Calcium carbonate is a common additive but I can't remember what for - anti caking?

Yes, it does contain salt. I remember there being something in the newspaper a couple of years ago about a baby dying after being fed Readybrek - the baby was only 3 months old though, so a bit younger. You're best off making your own porridge with rolled oats and hot milk.

No, the baby that died was also fed gravy and instant mashed potato, both of which contain loads of salt. It was also fed Ready Brek but this was OK IIRC.

Ooops - that wasn't meant to sound pompous and know-it-all!

I've just checked my cupboard and Tescos version of Ready Brek has no added salt and only trace amounts of sodium. I assume that the added vitamins and minerals are all fine.

I've got a feeling that I read somewhere that oats are best given after 6 months as they contain either gluten or something very similar. Probably totally wrong and I apologise in advance if I am !

Thanks for your replies
I think I had heard about the baby too it was about 5 years ago and that is why I thought it was not suitable for babies. Checking the ingredients it looked fine so I was a bit confused. We are giving him Boots organic baby cereal which is lovely but tbh I am looking for a cheaper alternative as it is about £2 a packet . I think as it is christmas I will give him the luxury breakfast now
