Hi, I'm feeding 9 adults and 4 kids next Sunday and have just ordered a 6.5 slow cooker off amazon to arrive this Monday.
I won't have much time to practice so can anyone recommend an easy but delicious recipe that would feed us all please?
Thinking anything lamb or beef stew type dish.
Will roast small potatoes seperately and boil some greens.
Thanks in advance.

Do this quite often for upwards of 15!

Cubed beef
mixed veg (sweed/carrots/onion/whatever you fancy) - sometimes put potatoes in too.
About a pint of water - slow cookers don't need the same amount of fluid.
Salt and Pepper.
To eat in the evening, I would put this on about 8 in the morning on low, the longer it cooks the better, thats the beauty of a slow cooker!
About an hour before serving, I thicken it up with gravy granules, to required thickness. Always comes out lovely. Its very basic, but easy and tasty.

My two standard big sundays are:

chilli (slow cooker)/ joint of beef/baked potatoes/salads

beef stew/huge shepherds pie/veg

I hope this helps? Sorry if its abit garbled!

P.S I always have a couple of big dishes of bread too! Just to fill em up and for the kids.

Thanks very much. All suggestions very helpful as I haven't even done it once!

You will be fine! The trick I think personally is "Keep it Simple" don't complicate it.

There is nothing I like better than feeding a load of people.

Enjoy!

Thanks tantrum.
I can cook- I do it 6 nights a week (because I have to) and sometimes I even splash out and put in a bay leaf and some wine Grin. I guess I'm just a bit nervous cause it's my first time with a slow cooker AND there will be guests (just family though, so not a disaster if it doesn't turn out perfect). And I hear all these stories about liquid!?
Anyway, I'll come back on later.

Shin of beef....google for the Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall recipes. he has a couple, our fav is the sweet and sour chilli beef one.

I think he says to serve with noodles, but mash is also lovely. Or just some warm crusty bread if you cba with side dishes.

Lamb curry is fabulous in the slow pot too, bulk it out with sweet potato or butternut squash, serve with naans and a yoghurty herby dip.

I've googled but can't find that, catsmamma - any chance you could link please?

I often do the shin of beef the day before, ime that recipe is very "sauce-y" but you can add more beef to bulk it up. Also it gives you the opportunity to fridge it overnight and skim off excess fat.

Another fave is to reheat it in the slow pot, and just throw in herby dumplings for the last half hour or so. We all like soft squeezy moist dumplings here which is exactly what you get with a slowpot, but if you prefer a crispier one I wouldn't bother.

Generally I'd say to season more and use less liquid than you think if you are new to slow cookers.

Thanks!
I think I'm going to go with a beef stew of sorts. I'll google recipes to see how i can make it super tastey.
And I def need advice on how to cook it to perfection in a slow cooker as its my first time.
