Gorgeous chutney recipes, please, that I can put pretty much any veg in

... like courgettes, French beans, a few runner beans and apples? And some green tomatoes.

These are what I need to use up, and because our fruit (plums, damsons) were so rubbish this year for making Christmas jams, I'm thinking I'll make some nice chutney to give away at Christmas.

So, spectacular chutney recipes, please! A nice green tomato one would be good, and an everything-else-thrown-in-together one?

And can I freeze the vegetables now, since I don't have much time for a mega cooking session for a few weeks?

Thanks ever so much.

I think the recipe you need is Hugh Fearnly-Twitnot's Glutney. Its in either the very 1st River Cottage Book or River Cottage Year (as these are the 2 I have but currently boxed up so I can't check) but I imagine a quick google should bring it up :)

Thank you both.

I found the 'Glutney' recipe. Looks perfect!

Do you think it'll work if I freeze the veggies beforehand?

I think it should work ok, but maybe chop the toms before freezing as they turn to mush once defrosted. I have successfully made jams/jellies from frozen fruit before, never chutneys though, but its not all that different I don't suppose. Good Luck!

Good luck.

Made my first chutney this morning with all our windfalls. Loved it. So easy and satisfying.
