Alternative to royal icing to stick a topper onto a christening cake

My MIL has very kindly made DD2s christening cake and iced it with fondant. I've bought a topper, which recommends making royal icing to stick it on top of the cake. But making royal icing seems a bit of faff when I only need about a teaspoonful. Can you suggest an easy alternative?
Thank you

Hi Zule, um, i usually use royal icing for thing s like that as it sets so hard, you can buy the silverspoon royal icing in a box,( in the sugar isle at the supermarket),then just add a drop of water and beat it for few mins, otherwise not sure what else you can use that would secure it.

Hi Nanny, that sounds simple, much easier than making it from scratch. Thanks, I'll track some down

Ask your MIL for the leftover fondant, knead it so it's soft then add a few drops of water and mash/stir until it becomes a paste. It won't set quite as hard as royal icing but it will be more than adequate to hold a topper in place.

That's a good idea, thanks LadyD. I'll drop by MIL in the morning and hope she's not been too keen on clearing out
