Broad beans in risotto.... Boil first?

Hi, I would like to add broad (runner) beans to my risotto. Should I boil them first? Also should I include the outer bit as we usually eat this or just use the beans from inside?

Broad beans and runner beans are different aren't they?

Are they? Well I think these are runner beans. Flat long and green.

I was going to say if they are broad beans (...in their blankety bed...) peel the actual beans themselves - the whitish/greyish/green skin is more bitter than the bright green beans inside.

I know it is a bit of a faff.

If they are runner beans take the stringy bits off then cut them on the diagonal, into rhombus shaped chunks (sorry! Grin). I would boil them a bit before they go in the risotto, and then chuck them in towards the end.
