Stir-fry for a toddler. What sauce?

I just realised that it can be a perfect dish for my 21 month old DD. A bit of rice noodles, some prawns or fish or beef or pork or just veg but I don't know what to do with sauce.I can't really serve her the shop bought I eat, they're so sweet. What alternatives can you think of?

I just put a dash of soy sauce on and a pinch of chinese 5 spice and a bit of onion with the veg. DD seems to like it. Get reduced salt soy sauce if you can, as your DD is a bit younger than mine and you'll probably want to watch the salt a bit more.

I just add Chinese Five Spice. Oh, and cook it in sesame oil rather than olive oil. It makes all the difference.

I cook stir fries in sesame oil too - it's amazing what a difference it makes.

I must admit to never thinking about the sauce though. We've always just used what we'd use for ourselves, just a bit less.

2.3yo DD is quite partial to Sweet Chilli, but is more than happy with soy and oyster combo. Dread to think what I've done to her insides now. Oops Blush

I started off using oyster sauce and garlic and now that it's their favourite meal I can introduce other things like the 5 spice and a bit of chilli oil gradually - my DC are 5.

I also chop up the king prawns into tiny bits so they don't wolf them down and then eat ours!

Mewsical ha ha! So true about the praws (or indeed anything that is on my plate. Cheeky buggers Envy

i used to give my dd stir fry without any sauce, just with the flavours of the onion, garlic, veg and little bit of soy and or whatever it was. (hoi sin, lemongrass etc)

Even the reduced salt soy sauce is very salty.

I use smooth peanut butter and sesame oil, with a tiny bit of chilli powder - hey presto, poor man's satay Smile

I made prawn noodles for us and my 10 mo twins the other night. For them I did a sauce made of some tinned tomatoes (only a small amount), chopped garlic , and low salt stock made with a very little water.
