Good stick blender?

I was blending a batch of soup that I had taken off the heat, and the head of my stick blender melted! Talk about not being fit for purpose, but I suppose I did pay about a fiver for it from the supermarket...

I have vowed to start replacing all my cheap tat household stuff for really nice quality things that will last, so what is the best stick blender out there? I will mostly be using it for making soup.

I like my bodum one. Only ever use it for soup - great quality and the end is metal so can't melt! (my last one did the same as yours!!).

And it comes in funky colours Smile. I got it in the sale at John Lewis but I can't remember how much it was - not more than £30 certainly.

Ooh good idea thank you, you have just reminded me I have £40 John Lewis vouchers to spend so I could use those! Grin

I've had a Braun Multiquick 5 for several years and it's excellent. It's a stick blender but you can swap the stick bit (metal) for a mini food-processor or a whisk. All comes apart for easy washing.

my bamix is the best - not cheap but definitely worth every penny - it has a million uses

I think there are lots of good ones out there. My only tip is buying one that is all metal. Plastic breaks and discolours with use, in my experience. I love mine, but can't remember what brand it is and have a sleeping baby on my chest so a bit hard to go and check.
