what beaker are you using? The best one I found was the \link{http://www.tommeetippee.co.uk/index.php?p=31\tommee tippee first cup} with flip up spout. It is not non-spill but that makes it easier to use. I would pick one cup and stick with it as chopping and changing will confuse your lo.

Also when are you offering it? I found that offering it during a meal and then leaving it on the highchair tray was the best way as she could then pick it up, fiddle about with it and attempt to use it herself (rather than me forcing it on her).

Above all it takes perseverence - it is a new skill for her to learn and it may take weeks/months before she gets used to it and starts taking more than a few sips from it.

Good luck

p.s. in the meantime your lo will still get her fluids from her milk

I don't mean to offend you miarose, really, but is there anyone with a big stick somewhere warning us to do this or that just because this someone has decided it's the right thing to do ?!
If she's happy with a bottle at 8m then let her have her bottle, what's the big deal ?! I've never seen a 10 year old drinking out of a baby's bottle.

leave her with her bottle for milk... she's fine with it!

as for water out of a cup, i would also second the one in seona's link... best by far IMO and cheap too!
just leave the cup around and offer it at various times if she can't manage it herself...

Fredly - I think beakers are advised now due to possible tooth decay from bottles

I didnt bother offering milk out of a beaker until dd was over 1 year old as I knew her intake would drop and she never took much milk in the first place. I did start introducing water in a beaker (tommee tippee first cup, as below) from around 7 months but it took weeks before she took more than a few sips from it. I wasnt too bothered as she got the majority of fluids from her milk bottles anyway. It is good to introduce a beaker just now but it will take a lot of practice before your lo is proficient at using it. The TT cups are widely available in the supermarket, chemists, etc and are cheap too. They also last for ages as my dd uses her without the lid now as a 'big girls' cup.

I'm just starting to wean my 7 month old onto a beaker, but as he was bf he's only had about half a dozen bottles of ebm in his life, so getting him 'off the bottle' wasn't a problem.

We found the \link{https://secure.bickiepegs.co.uk/acatalog/index.html\Doidy Cup} to be good. They can get really decent swallows of liquid from it very easily. It's messy at first because there's no lid, but if my ds is having ebm from it I only put a little bit in at a time to avoid spillages of the precious stuff! If it's water I just fill it up and let him (and the surrounding area) get wet! It's only water, and he's got to learn to drink from a rim sometime, so why not now?

I use \link{http://www.avent.com/uk/en/toddlerfeeding_magic_cup.php\Avent Magic Cup}
My dd is six months and I offer her juice / water out of this. She's breastfed and struggles with bottles anyway (we use NUK ones) so thought we may as well try a beaker cup to see how it went when she is at the childminders. She's doing well with it. I tend to mix 1/2 oz baby juice with 8 oz water as my dd refuses water now, I figure that there is hardly any juice in there, so not too bad.
