Tips for perfect cookies?

I'm entering some cookies into a village show soon. Does anyone have any hints on how to make them as good as possible, please? They're the roll into little balls and squash then down on the tray kind and have chocolate chunks and hazelnuts in them.

My only tip would be don't skimp on the chocolate.....choose a good quality high % cocoa option and it makes a huge difference to the taste of the cookie! Nice hearty chunks of high grade chocolate...yum! Good luck!

After watching an episode of Nigella Lawson a few years ago I now use an old fashioned, spring-loaded metal ice-cream scoop to measure out the balls of cookie dough. I have a regular size one and a small one depending on how large I want the cookies. They come out a far nicer (and more uniform) shape than when you use your hands and it's less messy too. Got mine at Lakeland. You just squish them down a tiny bit once they're on the tray. Good luck!

Thanks! It has to be milk chocolate Hmm but I've splashed out on green and blacks. Will see how I get on! Should I try to bury the chunks of chocolate so they don't burn or is it nicer to see bits poking out? Decisions!

Personally I like a mixture of the 2.....not too much on top or as you say they burn but just a little bit poking out is nice!! :)

Thanks! Going to make them as soon as dc asleep. Shall have to make sure they look as if they just ended up like that-artfully random looking-rather than carefully arranged!

They're made and in and probably judged by now! My family thought they were good which is more important Smile. Feel quite nervous-never had my baking actually judged before.

Highly commended Smile. Don't think I'll rush to enter the great British bake off but quite pleased.
