Lunchbox ideas, help!

My ds is complaining I don't put enough in his lunchbox!

Usually it is a wholemeal sandwich/roll. Fruit and a small treat and some oatcakes and a banana which he sometimes leaves.

Is this enough for a six year old? I wonder if he is just hankering after crisps etc. He says the other kids have better lunches Hmm

Anyway does anyone have an easy recipe for some healthyish home baking I could put in, to fill him up. Thanks

I always chop up carrot, cucumber and celery, they are healthy and take a lot of chewing, as well as being wetter than the other stuff in the lunch box. Does he like cheese? A few cubes of this or a Babybel gives some more calcium and a small amount of fat too.

Will watch this thread as am dreading having to make packed lunches again Grin

Try wraps or pasta
Home made cake
mini bread sticks and a dip

if he is hankering after crisps can you not give some as his small treat? I usually put half a bag in a wee pot as i dont think they get enough time to eat all the other items in the lunch box and it can take a while to eat a whole bag of crisps.

my 2 (7 and 4) get
sandwich,wrap, pasta etc
2 pieces of fruit (eg small banana and a few grapes)
frube
small treat eg creal bar, little cake, pot of crisps etc

Imflab - do your kids like to eat cold pasta? My ds is starting school next week and is a bit of a fussy eater. He likes pasta and soups etc but not sandwiches or bread type things. I'm not sure if he would eat cold pasta but he is going to have to eat something I guess or he'll be starving by the time he gets home!

DD will eat cold tuna pasta and im going to be trialing a cheese pasta (cold pasta with possibly a smidge of olive oil to lubricate the pasta and grated cheese) on the 2 of them.

I would start if you can in the run up to starting school to make him his lunch as he would get it at school and you can trial all the differnet ideas, sometimes just because its in a box or served different they will eat it.

Also if he eats soup or will only have hot pasta, you can get a small flask that you can serve both of these in for about £10.

I had thought about a flask but was thinking at 4yr it would be too tricky for him to handle. I have until 10 Sept to get him used to other food so must start doing a few trial runs now!

Have you tried googling for bento box ideas? I've made a few for my two and they love it. Some ham cut into shapes, veg/fruit sticks or disks and rice arranged in a cute way. And I made an eggy omelette the night before and cut it into strips. Put a little tub of soy sauce in for them to use.

I can't be bothered to do it every day though!

Hard boiled egg is a nice easy one - the protein fills you up quicker.
