hello there - have any of you come across kids with 'highly developed palates' that turn their snotty little noses up at the food you serve them when they come on play dates? i offered spagnetti with a choice of pesto, grated cheese and bolognaise and was told that they only liked linguine! gnash gnash. felt like serving it onto child's head!!!!

smirk!
Did you make them linguini?

Carmenere · 14/03/2006 10:11

no but my 2yr old likes roquefort Shock

hatjam · 14/03/2006 10:12

nope! through gritted teeth said we were all out (but did cave in and offer alternative of chopped apples, cheese, ham - sadly not serrano). child picked at spaghetti looking vaguely disgusted. grrrrr

Ha ha!!
There was a great thread around last Christmas called 'You know you're a foodie when.....'
Maybe someone cleverer than me can find it? It was very funny.

hatjam · 14/03/2006 10:14

i've nothing against roquefort - (although poooooh, incidentally) - more snotty attitude of child in question.

thanx moondog - i'll check it out for next time said child comes around - if the parents allow it! Blush

Is there really a huge difference between spaghetti and linguine? Arne't they both just long pasta?

Yorkiegirl · 14/03/2006 10:17

linguine is flatter isn't it?

moondog · 14/03/2006 10:19

I'm trying to find it..

hatjam · 14/03/2006 10:23

maybe the parents think it's good to have such a discerning kid - i think i'd rather my two were adaptable and non-picky (although we did have a phase where ds would only eat green grapes and dd only purple!)

DD has a varied appetite and will pretty much eat anything (although in small amounts), but does like more exotic things - eg on holiday a couple of weeks ago she developed a taste for oysters (she's 4 btw).

bosscat · 14/03/2006 10:39

hilarious. my 2 year old will only eat smiley faces. my 4 year old expects cheese and crackers after dessert and asks for avocado with his salad. mixed up at birth obviously.

Bozza · 14/03/2006 11:04

Yes yg it is flatter. But I don't think that is discerning really, it's being picky.
