I bought some double Elmlea and its got thicker after much whipping but not thick like whipped cream, any ideas of how to thicken it as it was a cake filling and it will just slop out Sad?

do you have an electric mixer?

FringeEvent · 27/08/2012 15:56

Is it at fridge temperature? I don't use artificial cream so am not sure if this applies, but with real cream I know it needs to be cold to thicken properly (I think if it's at room temperature, the bubbles can't form properly, or something like that)

Elmlea won't whip because it isn't cream. I guess you could thicken it with icing sugar, but really - you'd be better off chucking it and buying proper whipping cream.

I bought the wrong stuff, not paying attention Blush, I used an electric mixer.
I think you are right its wont thicken as not cream (it was cold). I think Yokel is right and it may be destined for the bin.

thanks

Cook some linguine, pour on badly behaved Elmlee add bacon, prawns or whatever you happen to have.
Buy real whipping cream or make butter cream for cakeGrin

Starballbunny you may have just saved it from the bin, mmm sounds lovely Thanks
heads to shop for real cream and bacon

My Mum can't eat anything with cream in it without feeling poorly afterwards. I used double elmlea to make a cheesecake the other day for her. It whipped fine to a thick consistency. Much quicker than cream does.
She like the cheesecake too. Result!

Add a capful of alcohol whiskey or similar as it stiffens cream

2kids - try lactofree cream. I can't eat normal cream, either, but I'm fine with that.

Is it nicer than elmlea? I'm a bit snobby and will always make mine with proper cream anyway, but if I'm catering for a party I'll always make something she will eat. We are planning to make 2 cheesecakes for my DDs birthday buffet table to do a direct comparison.
She's cooked with elmlea for years and really likes it. If the lactofree cream is nicer, I'll give it a go and surprise her.

The posh bronze die linguine Tescos sell works particularly well with cream sauce, it's slightly rough and it sticks well.

I live 10 miles from a decent shop, bacon or frozen prawns and Elmlee (because it lives far longer than cream) is one of my. Oh sod we can't have planned meal we haven't any X stand bys.

Any way hope you had nice tea and cake. I very rarely get cake with real cream you made me feel hungary.

Elmlee is also good for thinning cabanarora (sp) sauce that can be a bit strong and sticky for little DCs if you just use eggs and cheese.
