Kenwood chef AND magimix???

TheSteveMilliband · 26/08/2012 16:16

I have a magimix which I use for curry pastes/ grating/ pastry etc but have never found it that good for cakes/meringues. I hanker after a kenwood/kitchenaid but can't justify the expense unless get an old second hand one and then I still have to justify the space it takes up! Does anyone have both, and if so do you use them both? They all seem to have lots of attachments which I don't need, just the whisk/kbeater/dough hook would be fine. Please come and help me justify having both!

I don't think there's an attachment for flour in the food processor. There's a grater, a metal blade, a juicer and chopping thingy.

Flatbread pizza sounds like a plan. Smile

Thank you, sorry for hijacking the thread. Blush Wine

I had a Kenwood food processor which was pretty good but like you I wanted something for the mixing/beating/kneading which my processor could do but only in limited quantities and, like you I didn't want 2 big gadgets...

So a thread on here convinced me I should get a Kenwood Propero that came with a processor attachment, but I then saw what I really wanted a Kenwood chef Titanium (£300) not cheap but worth every penny and the love of my life (don't tell DH or the kids) Grin

LadySybildeChocolate · 26/08/2012 21:24

That's only 20 pizzas, Mothership. Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/08/2012 21:32

I've got the Kenwood Prospero that does the beating, whisking mixing etc in the bowl, then has liquidiser, food processor (grater/slicer/chopper) and juicer attachments to go on top, can't remember how much it was now, but I saw it today in John Lewis for about £150.

However I have held onto my old Kenwood hand electric whisk for the DCs to use, as you don't really get a feel for it doing it in the mixer.

LadySybildeChocolate · 26/08/2012 21:35

Oh, that's only 10 pizza deliveries or 5 meals at Pizza Express! Brilliant! Grin

TheSteveMilliband · 26/08/2012 21:41

Mothership, would looove a titanium, Envy but magimix was not cheap and is great as a food processor. Is there much difference between the prospero and titanium? Prospero looks quite compact Whoknows, that might work

Ten pizzas! Grin I'm getting one!

www.johnlewis.com/231706500/Product.aspx?SearchTerm=kenwood+prosperio it's now on 'the list'.

LadySybildeChocolate · 26/08/2012 21:45

It's the price of five if you go to Pizza Express or Zizzi, Milliband! Shock It makes perfect sense to me; don't buy the pizza, make them instead and save the cash for wine something else.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/08/2012 21:51

The Prospero is very compact, I only have a small kitchen and never thought I had space, but it really takes up hardly any room at all, sits in a corner just under the cupboard where all the flour and stuff lives and makes baking so quick and easy. I also thought I might have to pull it forward from under the cupboard to raise the head but no, I do have to pull it out to get the top attachments on though, but it is quite light. You need somewhere to keep the liquidiser and other attachments when not in use.

LadySybildeChocolate · 26/08/2012 21:52

I need you to come and organise my house kitchen, WhoKnows. Grin

MothershipG · 26/08/2012 21:52

I think the Titanium is essentially just bigger, bigger bowl, bigger motor and more attachments. It is my dream machine and because it came with the processor I was able to get rid of my old one and only have 1 machine.

It's not small and too heavy to be taking in and out of a cupboard, so it's out on the work top but it gets used a lot (as my expanding waist line shows!)

If you intend to keep your magi mix I think the prospero will be perfect for you - as long as you don't want to mix big quantities of bread dough or fruit cake mix. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/08/2012 21:59

LadyS - the kitchen is the only bit of my house that is remotely organised and that is only so I can keep buying new gadgets.

I got rid of one of those big sets of scales with a dial on the front and bowl on the top and replaced it with a slim digital one that stands on its side when not in use to make room for Mr Mixer as he is known.

LadySybildeChocolate · 26/08/2012 22:05

I moved house in June and there's a list of things that I need. Scales are on there (I used to use my neighbours). My kitchen is longer then my old one, and has more cupboards for me to fill. I will be saving money by avoiding take away pizza though, so this is an investment. Grin I'd build a clay oven in the garden if I could, it may upset the local bat population though.

TheSteveMilliband · 26/08/2012 22:25

I think you have me sold on the prospero Grin. Christmas pressies sorted. Not sure I'd give up on pizza express though ladyS, isn't that what tesco vouchers are for? Wink

I don't shop in Tesco. My choices here are a butcher, a small greengrocer (neither sell organic), a tiny Sainsbods or a slightly larger Co op. Ds goes to school 6 miles away and there's a small Waitrose on the way. I'm going to have to learn how to cook properly. Sad

TheSteveMilliband · 26/08/2012 23:17

Oh well, tesco is awful, and you will be having gorgeous homemade pizza anyway Grin

...and bread, cakes... Grin

ThisIsNotHoneyDragon · 27/08/2012 09:54

Get the 900w Prospero. It really can take a fair bit of abuse, and is better for heavier mixes.
Agree with others about it not taking up space, I don't have to move mine to use it, it sits under the boiler in the corner and I simply lob everything in.
