Did this for the family last night and it was delicious.

Anyone else tried it or any of the other recipes from the series?

I've reserver the book from the library but am number 29 in the queue, think I will be relying on the website for a while yet!

I made the chicken jalfrezi last night and it was fucking amazing. I swapped the peppers for aubergines though. I'm going to make the Korma tomorrow; it seems like a lot of fuss, is it worth it?

Just got the book and it's fab- well worth the money.

Skip the lemon cupcakes though, they're... interesting.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/08/2012 09:39

Think it is woth it, basically it's just frying onions which pretty much starts off every mealtime for us anyway Grin.

I put the chicken to marinate in the morning before I went out and that only took a couple of mins, so yes, I'd say its worth it.

Will think twice about the cupcakes then Smile.

Definitely give the jalfrezi a go.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/08/2012 09:46

Thanks, will give it a go next week, already done my meal plan and shopped for this week Smile.

I watched that episode and thought both the Chinese and the Korma looked nice. However, I'm a veggie and when I looked at the book instore, there were hardly any recipes I could actually do. Shame because I really like the Hairy ones!

NettOlympicSuperstar · 26/08/2012 12:38

I liked the sound of them too, but am not, and don't need to be on a diet.
I don't own any of their books though and fancy one, so I'm thinking of the pie one and a le creuset pie dish to go with it

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/08/2012 12:51

I have a v beautiful Le Creuset pie bird!

Am not on a diet either, but if a recipe can taste just about the same for 300 calories, better to make that than the 600 calore alternative, for anybody maybe? Room for pudding then! :)

I haven't got any of their books but some of the pies look gorgeous.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 26/08/2012 13:27

I don't really do pudding, don't have a sweet tooth.
I think I'll go for the pie book then, I've not made many pies, though I did a lovely, veggie Indian filo one this week.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/08/2012 15:28

This is a nice pie - it's enormous though (and not at all diet-ish)! It's from a Lesley Waters recipe.

Sheet of puff pastry on a baking tin, lined with baking paper. Stab it and make it for about 6 minutes, to start it off.

Top with slightly under-cooked halved new potatoes, lightly steamed savoy cabbage, feta and halved cherry tomatoes, plus whatever herbs you fancy.

Top with another sheet of pastry and bind/egg wash. Cook until golden.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/08/2012 15:29

bake not make

NettOlympicSuperstar · 26/08/2012 16:08

Sounds lovely, I'll give it a bash.

Dolallytats · 26/08/2012 16:18

I made the Spanish Chicken recipe in this book and it was lovely!! I'm going to try the Chicken Korma soon, it looks fab!!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 26/08/2012 19:15

Spanish Chicken sounds delicious, hope it's as nice as the recipe I usually use otherwise I might cry!

I really want to have this book so very interesting to read these comments. Only caught one episode then a few snippets but what I saw looked fab.

I already have a Korma planned for this week (and a fridge full including cream oh dear!) but will try it in a couple of weeks time definitely.

MrsPnut · 26/08/2012 19:17

I made the cupcakes today and they were quite nice, I didn't use as much oil as they put and used slightly more yoghurt but they were very light and very tasty.

MrsPnut · 26/08/2012 19:18

I've also made the Jalfrezi from last months good food magazine and I am dying to try the pies.

tethersend · 26/08/2012 19:29

Interesting about your cupcakes- mine weren't sweet enough and stuck to the cases.

We should all try the spanish chicken on the same night and review it Grin

I usually use Nigella's recipe, so will be interested to see how it compares.

Dolallytats · 27/08/2012 06:39

Just in case you can't wait your turn for the book in the library, I bought my copy from The Book People for only £4.99 plus £1.99 P&P.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 27/08/2012 08:21

Thanks Dolally Smile

can't you just adapt the recipes to make them vegetarian? for example instead of chicken in the korma, use aubergine chunks.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2012 18:31

But I have plenty of veggie books already, so it's not worth buying a book that I'd need to adapt things tbh. And anyway, aubergine is the Vegetable Of Satan! :)

dreamingofsun · 28/08/2012 10:58

i've done the fish pie which my husband has been raving about ever since. the spanish chicken (first time pots didn't cook, so i did it without them this time which was nice). veg soup - good. sweet and sour chicken, husband also raved about when i made it.
