which would you recommend? I am torn between which one is the better. Clearly Kitchen Aid has all the colours.

I have a Kenwood (hand blender though,) and it is the best culinary gadget I've ever invested in. Heartily recommend. Very good and robust design.

I have a beautiful lipstick red Kenwood Pattisier and I wouldn't schange it for the world. I agree with Waswondering, they tend to be a 'once in a lifetime' purchase, so whichever one you get will be the one you love.

My advice would be to go with the design/colour you prefer and the price you can afford!

ComradeJing · 25/08/2012 13:18

We had a kitchen aid and the motor burnt out about a month after the warranty expired. This massively puts me off buying another.

ComradeJing · 25/08/2012 13:19

I'd probably choose the one that has the attachments you would most likely use though.

Jins · 25/08/2012 13:21

Kitchenaid owner here. Mum has a kenwood. Both are good but kitchenaid slightly better for cakes and kenwood slightly better for dough.

I had no spare cupboard space so it had to be kitchenaid for me as I can leave it on show. Kenwood would have needed a cupboard

PorkyandBess · 25/08/2012 13:24

Kitchenaid as it looks nicer, and like Jins said, is allowed on the worktop because of its good looks.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 25/08/2012 13:49

I love love love my kitchenaid and use it all the time! My mum had a kenwood which still works great after 30 years so I'm sure they're great too. Hard to say which is best but kitchenaid wins design-wise hands down if you care for that kind of thing :)

I got an American professional Kitchenaid (DH is an electrician Grin) for my 30th birthday and I love it.

Thank you so much for your replies. See that is precisely my problem. They both have so much going for them. I have a Kenwood handheld and it is one of the best quality gadgets I have ever bought. It was not until recently that I found out that Kenwood also does a mixer. I have until May to make a decision (big birthday). Whether it's gonna end up with a Kenwood or Kitchen Aid, it will be standing on the kitchen top nonstop in use Grin . I pretty much live in the kitchen myself!!

I had to return two kitchenaids! Which scared me off them so I ended up with refund and no mixer!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 28/08/2012 10:06

Poppyboo, what happened to your kitchenaids?! That sounds really strange to me as they're such good quality mixers. Did they overheat?

Lirogiro · 28/08/2012 10:11

I've got my mum's kenwood which is 45 years old and still going strong. If they still make them like they used to, then you can't get better value i reckon.

poppyboo · 28/08/2012 11:11

Maria it was so strange, the first one was making quite a bit of movement around the work surface when it was mixing something like cookie dough, and because the motor was having a hard time it was smelling too! Took it back and exchanged it for kitchen aid number two, got that one home and speed two didn't work straight out the box! Took it back, gave up and got a refund!

I would recommend you buying one from John Lewis/ Waitrose if you do buy one, their customer service is amazing! I simply took it back to customer service desk, explained what happened and they refunded me immediately. None of this taking it out of the box, sending for repair business...

tbh I think it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Every time one of these threads pops up you get the die-hards of both sides answering. I'm a Kenwood fan, but then I've never played with a KA and I don't have room on my tiddly kitchen worksurface for either, so my ancient 901A Kenwood lives in the loft and is hauled out when I've a fruitcake or royal icing to make. Periodically it pops a control board capacitor and stinks the house out, and I order a replacement for pence off ebay and solder it in, though I think I've replaced all the old ones with higher spec ones now so hopefully no more POPs. Mum still has her 701 but it's not really used these days as she's 81 and tends to leave cakes to me.

Even if you like KAs for being more decorative, if you leave them out you'll still have to wipe them over with a teatowel to remove dust!

Not sure how easy the more modern Kenwoods are to fix if they go wrong.

I have a KMix which I love, its in raspberry, but afaik its available in other colours too. Here it is :) www.kitchendresser.net/ekmps/shops/hging/images/kenwood-kmix-stand-mixer-red-with-free-mincer-attachment-worth-74.95-856-p.jpg
