What pudding for a mediterranean-ish meal?

I am cooking a meal this weekend for four adults. I am starting with bread/balsamic/oil/olives etc and going on to paprika baked cod with chorizo for main course.

However, my mind is blank for pud. In an ideal world, it would be easy but impressive and not involve too much cream, if any.

Any ideas?!

I'd do baked figs of some sort I think. Bake them with some honey, ginger, cinnamon and some star anise like this

They're lovely with mascarpone or ice cream.

Very easy to do and can be prepared in advance so no stress!

I would do a fruit platter, nectarines and greengages are good at the moment. You can dress it up a little, arrange it on a cake stand.

I was going to suggest tarte au citron as a nice make ahead pud, till I saw the not too creamy bit. Lemon sorbet?

littlebluechair · 23/08/2012 14:37

I was going to say icecream and figs in syrup, I think Colourme's recipe looks a winner!

Fruit salad and ice cream; lovely juicey peaches; apple tart (the French way) and accompanying pouring cream for those that want it?

Another vote for baked figs with marscapone and honey.

Yorky beat me to it - lemon sorbet. Maybe with those thin biscuits, can't remember name.

I'm not a fan but DH would go for Tiramisu EVERY time I'd prefer Zabaglione with biscotti

mirry2 · 23/08/2012 15:00

Not everyone likes figs. Ugh

Conflugenglugen · 23/08/2012 15:02

Baklava

littlebluechair · 23/08/2012 15:40

You'll be fine if Mirry isn't one of the guests.

Surely not everyone likes everything, that's just a risk when cooking for others?

Thanks all!

Fortunately, I do know the adults quite well so I think I know their tastes. Unfortunately, there is one who doesn't like figs - me!! It's a shame, because it would be a perfect end to this meal, I can see that!!

I don't think tarte au citron is too creamy - I just know that DM (who is one of the adults!) doesn't particularly like creamy puds like Eton mess (a favourite of mine!). I think lemon sorbet would be nice, too. I shall have to find a nice biscuit recipe for accompaniments, I think. Although I also really like the baklava.

Thanks again.

Ooh, can I have the cod recipe please, that sounds delicious.

JudithOfThePiece · 23/08/2012 20:54

It's a Lorraine Pascale recipe, from her book 'Home Cooking Made Easy'. I haven't tried it before, but I do like her recipes.

Have a google, but the version on this blog seems the same, apart from the new potatoes. HTH

I can't stand her on telly, I find her really irritating, but I think the same of Valentine Warner, and love his books and writing.
I want to try her hidden tiger cake for DD's birthday next week.

lilolilmanchester · 23/08/2012 23:48

what about an almond cake with caramelised oranges and Greek yoghurt?
