Tortilla is just potato and onion and frittata is pretty much whatever you fancy.

bamboostalks · 21/08/2012 20:31

Ok thanks. Seemed more complex than that when I googled!

prawns and red pepper are great in a tortilla. Onion and potato a must of course.....My only tip¨use a small pan (like an egg pan) - anything bigger than 7" will mean it become very greasy very easily. Also finish off the top under the grill. Suerte!

can I hijack please and ask a) can you make them in the oven b) are they ok served cold and c) if so, how far ahead can you make them?

bump

Tortilla, make in the frying pan, and then transfer into the oven to cook the top and rest of the middle (still inside the f pan) that way you don't have to flip it!!

They can be served cold, make up the day before/morning of occasion and serve cold, i like to cut mine up into cubes and pop on cocktail sticks or leave cubed on a plate for finger food, or cut into slices.

Also i thought the difference was origin!!

Have never made on in oven - fine eaten cold, can be made a day in advance. My tips - cook really slowly and better turned over in pan to finish rather than under grill. Oh - and plenty of salt

Nothing.

They're both omelettes with fancy names.

They aren't anything like omelettes!

In Italy frittata is used cold as a filling for sandwiches or piadine, and very often contains spinach.

Frittata - Italian, tortilla - Spanish, er...that's it

bamboostalks · 27/08/2012 16:22

Thanks! Still haven't tried it!
