Calling classy MNers. What do you like to nibble with your Champagne?

I'm getting very excited now.

My brother's getting married next Friday and we're doing Champagne and nibbles at my house beforehand.

What shall we eat?

My dad (Champagne supplier and proper grown up) says salami and anchovy-stuffed olives.

Anything else? There will be quite a few vegetarians there.

olives
salami, cut small enough to be finger food
you can get gorgeous olive/gherkin/anchovy things in oil in Sainsburys
hard boiled quails eggs and celery salt, not much effort but nice wow factor
strawberries
sorry if I've repeated anyone, not read thread, will do now

Ooh, just seen helsi's excellent suggestions. Will your budget stretch to \link{http://www.waitrosedeliver.com/wdeliver/servlet/JSPs/shop/shopping_fs.jsp?siteCode=BI\Waitrose entertaining?} Fab, ime and just the sort of thing you're looking for I think. But you could look there for some good ideas anyway even if you don't want to/can't use them.

Charcoal crackers with a triple creme cheese such as Brillat Savarin or Explorateur.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 11/03/2006 19:51

Nothing too oily , you need dryish food, would hate an outfit to be ruined by an oily mark before the service.Shock

Gougeres are fab - tiny cheese choux buns and not that hard to make. Also white chocolate with the herring caviar are weird but nice - melt choc put on grease proof and when also most set add teaspoon of the eggs. Cutting thin white bread with cutters and making melba toasts in the oven and topping them with things is also good, very easy and cheap and much easier than pastry cases - out can even cram them into tins to make them cup shaped before you bake. Mini yorkshire puddings with rare beef and horseradish. hard boiled quails eggs and celery salt. I would say go with more than you think you need - every book I have seen seems to reckon on 8-10 per head - maybe my friends are greedy but this would never be enough.

Also might give the pickled herrings a miss since it is before the service - think of all the kissing that goes on at weddings - not sure the herring breath would be so good!

Beef and onion crisps.

Salt and finiger stick crisps.

cheese and pineapple

Sausage on sticks

Hire out one of em chocolate melting machines (foundu or sommet) and stuff the above mentioned under it to give em sommet sweet to eat n all.

spidermama · 11/03/2006 22:09

Thanks deadclassynotchav. Do you think the blushing bride might want to guzzle some pickled onions and pies before the service?

Wickedviperwitch I'm LOVING the Waitrose idea. Very tempting.
