Can I save it? I've made plum jam, following a recipe to make it in my bread maker . It tastes lovely but hasn't gone thick. Is there anything I can do with it or will we just have to drink it ?

hoping an expert turns up soon. IMHO it may not have reached a high enough temperature or boiled for long enough - would seriously consider pouring putting it in a good pan and boiling it up on the cooker. However, I've not made plum jam. Every other fruit, yes, but plum no Grin

Mumnos, you could try putting the jam back in the pan and boiling it with some pectin (available in supermarkets), following the instructions on the pack. To test whether or not jam is ready to be put into jars, drop a little of it on a saucer. When it is cool push a finger through it. If it wrinkles then it is is ready. If no wrinkling happens, boil the jam for another 5. minutes and try the wrinkle test again.

Possibilities
Too much water
Not boiled enough
Not enough pectin (did your recipe add pectin? There is some in the skins, but it will depend on the plums)
Not acidic enough (Some plum jam recipes add lemon juice, it will depend on the plums)

Thanks
I'm going to try boiling some of it again. I didn't add pectin seperately but there is pectin in the 'jam sugar' that I used. If boiling doesn't work, I'll try adding more sugar and pectin. I'm new to all this, thought jam just came in jars Grin Still, having fun experimenting while the dcs are asleep and DH is at work. Thanks all x

well done Grin

Probably all been said but pit back jn the saucepan boil up again, either check with themmometre (I have special jam one)Grin or when u think it's done, drop a bit on cold saucer, nudge it, if it wrinkles it will set. I dint like using pectin as it's an additive and I try to get away without. Strawberry is the hardest to set but plum is usually ok.
