I don't really like the white sauce bit!

I will use lots and lots of cheese though - am I kidding myself that it would still be ok? Am making some tomorrow and will be giving half of it to a neighbour so it does need to be edible!! Grin

Should be fine. If you don't like the bechamel, you could use ricotta instead. That's very nice indeed...

Catsmamma · 16/08/2012 17:58

It'd be more like a pasta bake I suppose....can't see anything too wrong in that!

Or like Aubergine Parmigiana ....that's just layers of aubergine and a meatless bolognese sauce and millions of cheeeeeeese!

Absolutely fine. I can't eat white sauce so I just put cheese on mine. You need to mix a little water or milk into the grated cheese on top or it dries out a bit though.

strawberrie · 17/08/2012 11:11

It will be a lovely cheesy pasta bake instead!

ClaireRacing · 17/08/2012 20:55

I made a lasagne just yesterday. I make it with ricotta/mozzarella instead of a cheese sauce.

For my standard sized lasagne dish (3 noodles wide x two full layers), I used 500g of ricotta and 2 balls of mozzarella in the cheese layers.

A vegan friend made an amazing lasagne with hummus instead of the white sauce - sounds grim but it was fantastic.

seabuckthorn · 20/08/2012 12:09

claireracing that sounds amazing. I am shamelessly stealing it!

StealthPolarBear · 20/08/2012 12:10

my mum uses condensed mushroom soup, made up to double

Novia · 20/08/2012 12:12

We always make it with a cheddar cheese sauce instead of bechamel so you could give that a go?

PoohBearsHole · 20/08/2012 12:14

I have a friend who uses cottage cheese (yup really) and it is super delicious!

CMP69 · 21/08/2012 09:53

My mum uses cream cheese with an egg beatne in to it instead of cheese sause, it's yummy

lilolilmanchester · 23/08/2012 12:51

a friend of mine just chucks a carton of cream over the top and it's lovely. You can also make a white sauce with cornflour instead (make it the same way as you would make custard but with cornflour instead of custard powder and no sugar, of course!) - it's a bit lighter than a bechamel and lower fat

Trills · 23/08/2012 12:54

Use cheese sauce not white sauce.

White sauce is for wimps who can't handle the cheesiness.

BobbiFleckman · 23/08/2012 12:56

we use lo fat creme fraiche (& loads of CHEESE which renders low fat pointless)

PurplePidjin · 23/08/2012 13:04

It'll taste like spaghetti bolognese :o

Frontpaw · 23/08/2012 13:29

I love lasagne with cheese sauce. Adore it!

Whate everyone's bestest (veggie/posh) lasagne recipes? Not a big soya user but am open to persuasion.

Claire - did you just pop on a layer of ricotta and grated mozzarella? Can you use low fat mozzarella balls (they can be a bit watery sometimes).

ScariestFairyByFar · 24/08/2012 22:27

I make mine with cheese sauce just on the top not in the layers

cybbo · 24/08/2012 22:28

I used seasoned Creme Fraiche and grated cheese as the white layer

ScariestFairyByFar · 24/08/2012 22:30

For veggie lasagna I just make up a sauce with passatta, garlic and loads of veggies cook for a bit then layer up in dish, cheese sauce on top cook in oven
